Whether you like it or not, Selfies continue to grow in popularity each passing day and naturally, manufacturers find it easy to market selfie phones. They are scattered all over across the affordable and mid-range price segment and the Xolo Era 3X is the domestic manufacturer’s version of a selfie-centric handset with several other highlights like 3GB RAM, Android Nougat software, and a compact size. Is it the selfie phone you should buy for under 8,000 INR? Let’s discuss its merit in our Xolo Era 3x Review.

Design and Build
The Era 3X brandishes, what can be termed as, a classic Xolo design. It has a compact 5-inch screen but Xolo isn’t going out of its way to trim side bezels, and thus it isn’t an exceptionally compact phone. It’s also a bit chunky and feels heavy. Thought at the same time it does feel sturdy in hand.
The removable back panel curves towards the edges which lend the phone a nice grip. Below the back panel, you will find the dedicated microSD card slot and two SIM card slots. The battery housed inside is removable and user replaceable as well.
On the bottom edge, you will find the speaker grill and the regular micro-USB port. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor on the rear and a 2.5D glass on the front.
The 5-inch display has 720p HD resolution. It’s a fairly standard display in terms of quality. The display is sharp and bright. Colors aren’t exactly punchy but they aren’t flat either. Dynamic range is decent. Overall, the display quality is above average.
For photography, the Era 3x has a 13MP camera sensor on both front and rear, each with LED flashlight support. The high camera resolution helps with better details in daylight images. Low light performance isn’t anything to write home about, but that’s understandable for phones in this budget.
The rear 13MP camera is also a decent performer. You can click usable shots in good lighting but don’t expect much in terms of low light performance. The back camera doesn’t give it Era 3X an edge over the competition, but it isn’t a deal breaker either.
Performance and Software
The handset is powered by Mediatek MTK 6737 1.25GHz quad-core processor paired with 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The chipset should be good enough for basic users and the ample amount of RAM should help sustain performance in the long run. The 16GB storage isn’t much, to begin with, but for basic users, it should be manageable. Casual games run fine on the phone, but this isn’t a phone for high-end gaming.
The Era 3X runs Android Nougat as base software with light customizations on top. We didn’t face any UI lag or run into annoying inconsistencies. The fingerprint sensor on the rear is quite fast and accurate. Call quality and audio output are adequate too.
Battery, Price, and Verdict
The 3000mAh battery on the phone can conveniently last for an entire day or even more. The handset, however, doesn’t support fast charging.
Priced at Rs. 7,499, the Xolo Era 3X is an affordable option for selfie enthusiasts. In light of the price tag, there isn’t anything particularly wrong with the handset. If you are willing to spend more, you can consider Xiaomi Redmi Y1 (provided you can buy it) and if you are restricted by a budget of under 8K, you can consider Xolo Era 3X as an option.
