Vivo S5 with punch-hole AMOLED display and Snapdragon 712 SoC launched in China
Vivo on schedule has launched its next S-series smartphone, the Vivo S5 in China. The new smartphone packs a hole-punch selfie camera on OLED display and a 48MP quad-camera setup on the rear. The Vivo S5 is the successor to the Vivo S1 that launched back in July this year.
The new phone comes with a 3D curved gradient back and sports four rear cameras. At the back, a diamond-shaped module hosts three sensors with an LED flash while a fourth sensor lies below it separately.
The fingerprint scanner is found under the display similar to its predecessor, but the water-drop notch got replaced with a punch-hole cutout that is situated on the top-right corner of the screen in contrast with the usual top-left placement on most of the smartphones.
The Vivo S5 is built around a 6.44-inch 1080×2400 OLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio and 1200 nits brightness. The screen supports DC Dimming feature and is TUV Rhineland certified for being capable in blocking the emission of harmful blue rays.
On the inside, the Vivo S5 features the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC paired with Adreno 616 GPU, standard 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB default storage. There is no microSD slot for storage expansion, however.

As far as the optics are concerned, the Vivo S5 attaches a quad-camera setup at the back consisting of a 48MP f/1.79 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with 117-degree field of view, a 2MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. The front gets a 32MP selfie camera living inside the punch-hole cutout.
On the software side of things, the smartphone runs Funtouch 9.2 atop Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. A 4,100mAh battery equipped with 22.5W fast charging support supplies juice into the device. The charge is drawn through a USB Type-C port.
Amongst other things, the Vivo S5 supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and traditional 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphones measures 157.90×73.92×8.64mm in dimension while it tips the scales at 188 grams.
Coming to the pricing, the Vivo S5 is priced at CNY2,698 (Approx. INR27,700) for the 128GB storage model and CNY2,998 (Approx. INR30,700) for the 256GB storage model. The smartphone will go on sale on November 22 in China in Icelandic Blue, Phantom Blue, and Star Black paint jobs.
So far, Vivo hasn’t confirmed the International availability of the Vivo S5. Nevertheless, since Vivo S1 has made it to the Indian market, the Vivo S5 is also likely to see the daylight in the country.
