Vivo S1 with Screen Touch ID and 32MP selfie camera dropping on August 7 in India

In one of our earlier reports, we told you that the Vivo S1 is expected to launch in India in the first week of August 2019 and rightly so the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed that the device is going to break cover on August 7 in the country.

The company has started sending media invites for the launch event following a barrage of teasers released on social media platforms. The Vivo S1 was first launched in China in March and after a significant delay, its global version debuted in Indonesia on July 16.

The global version of the Vivo S1 differs in many aspects from the China version. The differences include a different processor, bigger battery, a tad smaller display as well as change in camera resolution.

However, the major cut-down is reflected in dropping the pop-up selfie camera from the global version which is to be released in India. Instead of pop-up selfie camera the new Vivo S1 now sports a selfie camera embedded into a water-drop notch.

Talking about the specs of the India-headed Vivo S1, it will have 6.38-inch 2340x1080p FHD+ AMOLED display which also integrates an in-display fingerprint scanner. The company otherwise calls it Screen Touch ID.

Under the hood, it will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P65 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.

Talking about the optics, the Vivo S1 mounts a triple-rear-camera setup at the back consisting of a 16MP primary sensor with f/1.78 aperture, an 8MP wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front, a 32MP selfie sensor with f/2.0 lies buried into the water-drop notch.

On the software side, the smartphone boots Android Pie with FuntoucOS 9 slapped on top. A solid 4,500mAh battery backs the phone aided by Vivo’s fast charging. The standard connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 5, micro USB port, and 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone is coming in Cosmic Green and Skyline Blue color options.

As of now the price of the phone is still shrouded in mystery. However, considering that in Indonesia the smartphone was launched at IDR35,99,000 which translates into approx. INR17,700. Given the cut-throat competition in the Indian market, it won’t be surprising if Vivo launches the handset with some fewer bucks less. Stay tuned.
