Samsung Galaxy Tab E Review

Samsung recently launched two new mid-range tablets – Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab E in India. Both the tablets offer a unibody design and supports voice calling. Tab E is available in India at a best buy price of Rs 16,990 and it features a 9.6 inch Display. So, is it worth buying? Read on to find out.

Design & Build Quality

Galaxy Tab E offers a unibody design and comes with a textured finish at the back. It measures 241.9 x 149.5 x 8.5 mm and weighs around 490g which is slightly on the higher side. Users can easily hold the tablet using two hands, but holding it with one hand for a long duration will be an issue.


The tablet comes with a 9.6 inch display along with 2-megapixel front facing camera. It supports voice calling but does not have any earpiece. During any incoming or outgoing call it automatically shifts to the speaker mode unless you are using a Bluetooth/wired headsets.


It comes with a microSD card slot and a micro SIM card slot on the left. Volume rocker along with a power/lock key is present on the right side of the tablet.


The tablet has a 5 megapixel camera along with a speaker outlet at the back. A micro USB port and a 3.5 mm audio jack is present at the top. The Design of the Galaxy Tab A does not have any special element but it does have great build quality in this price segment.


Tab E comes with a 9.6 inch WXGA TFT display which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio. The display offers decent viewing angles and brightness level. Users who love to edit documents, browse the net or watch videos will like the big display.

Hardware & Performance

The tablet is powered by a 1.3 Ghz quad core processor along with 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Users can expand the internal storage by using a micro SD card of upto 128 GB storage. The tablet is a decent performer and users can run multiple apps simultaneously without any major issue.

Due to a limited 1.5 GB RAM don’t expect it to be a heavy multitasker. You can enjoy casual games on the tablet but in high-end games you will face minor lag on high settings. The tablet supports 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and USB OTG.



Galaxy Tab E runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS along with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI on top. The interface is smooth and we didn’t face any lag while navigating through the home screens or while opening/closing the apps. The tab comes pre-loaded with a useful app Hancom office viewer. Luckily company have not installed any useless bloatware on the tablet.

The tablet also has a Kids mode option where parents can control and display only limited apps on the tablet while handing it to their kids. It supports Voice Calling, but you need to use the speaker or headsets for the call.


Camera & Battery Life

Galaxy Tab E comes with a 5 megapixel back camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. Both the camera modules can be used for occasional photography as the quality of images is not very good. The Tablet comes with a 5,000 mAh battery which can give you around 8 hours of continuous video playback on the device.


Samsung Galaxy Tab E is available in India exclusively on for Rs 16,990. Users who are looking for a mid-range tablet with large display and great build quality can opt for this tablet. It is not a very powerful tablet but can handle most of the apps and tasks. It is a great tablet for browsing internet, watching videos/movies or for editing documents.
