Micromax recently announced its another budget handset Bharat 1 which is company’s first ever feature phone that comes with 4G VoLTE support to compete with the JioPhone. Micromax has partnered with BSNL to launch this feature phone which can also be used with SIM cards of other mobile operators like Vodafone, Airtel, Idea, etc. But how good it is at this price point? Let’s answer that in our Bharat 1 Review.
Key Specifications of Micromax Bharat 1:
|Model||Micromax Bharat 1|
|Display||2.4 inch QVGA display|
|Processor||1.1 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 processor|
|Camera||2 MP rear and VGA front camera|
|Software||Unknown Android version|
Bharat 1 looks like a normal feature phone. It’s equipped with a small display with thick bezels around it. It has a T9 keyboard just below the display and an earpiece grill on the top. The phone is made up of good quality plastic and looks quite simple and elegant. There is a torchlight on the top edge and a micro USB 2.0 port and 3.5mm audio jack sit at the bottom one.
Overall, Bharat 1 looks good as per what one would expect from a feature phone. Its plastic back is very smooth but not slippery. It measures 134×56.4×13.8 mm and weighs 58 grams.
Bharat 1 packs a 2.4 inch QVGA TFT LCD display with the resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The good thing about the display is its visibility under sunlight is very good. You can also adjust the brightness, sleep time, font size, etc. But if you want to enjoy videos, this is not the right choice as the display is quite tiny for enjoying multimedia content and there is no option to rotate the screen.
Camera And Performance
If we talk about imaging, Bharat 1 packs one camera on both the front and on the rear. There is a 2MP fixed focus camera on its rear and a VGA front-facing camera. Like the other feature phones, its camera is very basic and it would be wrong to expect much in terms of photography. You can still manage to capture workable shots every now and then. It can also shoot the videos up to 480p, but again, the quality is average at best.
Performance And Software
Bharat 1 is handled by 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 MSM8905 processor with ARM Cortex A53 cores and Adreno 304 GPU. It is paired with 512MB RAM out of which only 196MB is free for the user. The phone also has 4GB of internal memory of which approx. 2GB is free for users. That’s, however, good enough for a feature phone and the performance is pretty smooth. We didn’t face any lag while using this phone.
Bharat 1 runs on a customized version of Android, but Android version hasn’t been revealed by the company. You will have to rely on buttons to navigate the interface as there is no touch interface here which is totally fine considering the price of the phone.
The left soft key takes you to quick settings where you will find toggles for sound, torch, Airplane mode, Brightness, Data, WiFi and Bluetooth. The software also allows you to change wallpaper, check notifications, and manage a few apps. There is no app drawer. All apps like Camera, contacts, Messages, etc are present in the app grid.
Battery, Verdict And Price
This feature phone comes with 2000mAh battery which is rated to deliver one-day battery life on heavy usage. If you’re not using the internet constantly, it can offer you up to 2 days battery backup. Bharat 1 is available for 2,200 INR on online retailer Snapdeal and offline leading retail outlets across the country. If you’re a feature phone user and are looking for 4G connectivity, this is a right option for you.
It has 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity, dual SIM slots and even it supports 22 regional languages. At this price range, Micromax Bharat 1 is a good value for money phone. Also, unlike JioPhone you can use any 4G SIM.
