As you might have already guessed by the above specifications, the laptop is a mobile workstation. Taking a first look at the specifications, we can say that this laptop would be able to handle day to day tasks with no issues at all. With that being said, let us now take a look at the Design and Build of the HP ZBook 15u G6 Laptop.
Design and Build
The HP ZBook 15u G6 looks pretty premium for the price. The laptop is built out of Aluminum. The lid of the laptop is pretty sleek but at the same time has minimal to no fledge at all. Opening the lid, you will be greeted with the keyboard and trackpad. Now, you can easily spot that the laptop is built out of aluminium, thanks to the silver finish.
We really liked the thickness of the laptop which unlike most of the laptops does not remain the same throughout. There is a change in the thickness as you move forward. The bezels around the display still remain pretty standard. We would have liked thin bezels around the display. Anyways, there is an HP Logo on the bottom bezel which does look good.
The laptop weighs around 1.8kg which makes it one of the lightest mobile workstation you can find in the market.
The HP ZBook 15u G6 has a display of 15.6 inch FULL HD IPS Panel with Anti Glare coating on the top to prevent glares. This display has a brightness of 250 nits which is pretty good in our opinion. The display performs exceptionally well both indoors and outdoors. We did try taking this display under the direct sunlight and as expected, it performed just decent. Taking this display under the direct sunlight is not suggested by us at the Gadget Diary.
The colour reproduction seems to be good with the display. The viewing angles are also decent, however, it could have been better. Overall, this is a good display to edit images or videos.
Hardware – Processing & GPU Performance
The HP ZBook 15u G6 performs exceptionally well, thanks to the 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8565U CPU under the hood. The i7 chip inside is coupled up with 16 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD which turns out to be a really good performer. During our testing, we were able to do some high-end tasks on the machine. However, when it comes to gaming, the laptop has an AMD Radeon™ Pro WX3200 Graphics Card which might not be the best pick for gaming, but still gets the job done.
We were able to play some gaming titles on the machine and faced minimal to no frame drops in the Medium Settings. You can try playing some heavy gaming titles on this machine with no to minimal lag but on low to medium settings. For those of you who were wondering, Yes, you can do some Video Editing on this laptop as well. With that being said, let us now take a look at Storage & Memory (RAM).
Storage & Memory (RAM)
The HP ZBook 15u G6 laptop comes with a 128 GB SATA Solid State Drive / 512 GB SATA FIPS-140-2 Solid State Drive. Now, this is an M.2 SATA Solid State Drive which has some really good read and writes speeds. As you might already know SSD or Solid State Drive is much faster and efficient than the standard HDD or the Hard Disk Drive. This M.2 SSD can also be replaced or upgraded in the future pretty easily.
Talking about the Memory, the HP ZBook 15u G6 laptop comes with 16 GB RAM which is massive for a laptop at this price point. You will not face any issues with multitasking at all. This is a DDR4 RAM which can be upgraded up to 32 GB in the future. We must say that this laptop is pretty future proof as well.
Keyboard & Trackpad
HP ZBook 15u G6 has a full-size HP Collaboration Keyboard. The company has done a pretty great job with the keyboard. If you are someone who types a lot, then let us tell you that the keyboard has the standard chiclet keys which are pretty tactile and have the grip to them to avoid slipping off your fingers. The keys aren’t that much spacious which might be a dealbreaker for some. But, the keyboard is spill-proof which is a great thing if you are on your laptop for a long period of time.
Anyways, the trackpad on this device is pretty big as well. You should not face any issues at all. The 2 physical trackpad keys are also integrated below the trackpad, so it does look pretty neat and clean. With that being clear, that being said, let us now take a look at the Final Verdict.
To conclude this review, we can say that the HP ZBook 15u G6 is actually a pretty great pick for those of you who are looking for a Mobile Workstation which can be used as your daily driver. The laptop does come with the latest version of Windows 10 Home Preinstalled which is a cherry on the top. But that laptop is available in India for a starting price of Rs. 1,21,900 which is slightly on the higher side.
