Design and comfort
The Huawei Honor Band 5 is a fairly compact fitness band. If you have used the Honor Band 4 in the past, then your first thoughts after taking a look at the Honor Band 5 would probably be “Nothing has been changed when it comes to the Design”. Well, Yes, that’s actually quite true. The Honor Band 5 is pretty identical to the Band 4 when it comes to the design.
That being said, the band is quite light and has a simple design like any other fitness band out there in the markets. There is a circular touch-based home capacitive button below the display.
Now, when it comes to comfort, the band is quite comfortable. The strap is made out of decent material which does not cause any issues and is soft to the skin making you safe from rashes. You should not face any discomfort while having this band wrapped around your wrist for long period of time. All in all, the band is quite comfortable with minimal design and compact form.
Performance, Interface, and Activity tracking
The Honor Band 5 comes with a lot of watch faces out of the box. There were around 7-10 watch faces when we tested this band out. Now, the company does promise to roll out an update where there will be a marketplace for Watch Faces to choose from. It’s something which is worth waiting.
Anyways, Band 5 does have a pretty simple and straightforward setup process. You simply need to download the Honor Band application on your Android Device in order to connect the band with your device. You can swipe down to use the features of the band.
The first one tells you the step count and calories burnt along with other physical movement stats. The next one is a heart rate monitor which does work fine as well. We didn’t face any issues with it at all.
Then we have the sleep data and the workout options. The icons are quite different from what they were with the Honor Band 4. All in all, the band works well and have a user-friendly interface.
Notification Sync and Battery
You do get some other options which are useful at times. For instance, you do get Stopwatch, Brightness, Screen options and you can also find your mobile device with this band. It will start an alarm which says “I am here” on your Phone so it’s easy to find the same. Anyways, there is also a Messaging app on the device which is quite identical to what it was like on the Band 4. The messaging app is quite laggy to work around with.
Coming to the Huawei Health app, there is actually a lot of stats like Heart Rate, Sleep Cycle and even the steps count. The sync works quite good, you do get alerts for calls and messages on your Honor Band 5 which is a good feature. You can also reject the calls from the band itself. The battery backup of this Honor Band 5 is quite impressive.
With normal usage, you should be able to get somewhere around 12-14 days of backup on a single full charge. The band takes around 1-1.5 hour to get charged completely which is also very impressive.
To conclude this Honor Band 5 Review, we can say that it is a pretty great pick for those of you who are looking for a fitness tracker on a budget. The Super AMOLED Display looks absolutely gorgeous, there are some great options for the Watch Faces and the icons on this band also looks pretty good.
The only major concern with this fitness band is SPO2 sensor is not available with the Indian variant as of writing this article. Apart from that, the data on the band is pretty accurate and the band is also pretty comfortable to wear.
If you are someone who is looking forward to buying their first fitness tracker under 2500 INR, then we will definitely recommend you this band or the Mi Band 4. However, if you are using Honor Band 4 and is thinking if you should upgrade to the Band 5, then we would not recommend you doing so since not a lot has been changed.
