Foldable Motorola RAZR 2019 launched, also coming to India soon

After several rounds of leaks and rumors the iconic Motorola RAZR 2019 has finally seen the daylight. The smartphone comes marrying the RAZR’s old clamshell form factor with the modern day’s foldable display technology. There is also a small external display for the notification alerts, media consumption and more.

The smartphone is priced at $1,500 (Approx. INR1,08,270) and will be available in the US from January 9 exclusively via Verizon. The company has also teased the phone to launch in India although without revealing an exact date. Nevertheless, it is expected to drop earlier than expected.

The Motorola RAZR 2019 packs two screens including a 7.3-inch internal display which the company calls Flex display and a 2.6-inch external display called as the Quick View Display. The internal P-OLED display comes with 21:9 aspect ratio and 876x2142p HD+ resolution, whereas the external G-OLED display comes with 4:3 aspect ratio and 600x800p resolution.

The main 7.3-inch display when unfolded gets flush with the inner panel without exhibiting any crease or bend whatsoever in the middle. The screen sports a notch above, housing a 5MP f/2.0 selfie shooter and necessary sensors. The outer Quick View Display is attached to the exterior for showing notifications, controlling music, as well as serving as a viewfinder for photography.

Upfront, the Motorola RAZR 2019 makes use of 16MP f/1.7 primary camera which shoots selfies when the phone remains folded and when open the same camera turns a rear camera for capturing photos just the way we do with the regular smartphones.

Under the hood, the Motorola RAZR 2019 doesn’t pack a punch if compared to the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the HUAWEI Mate X, the other two foldable phones that are fueled by the flagship-level processors. The Motorola RAZR 2019 makes use of a mid-range 10nm Snapdragon 710 SoC working in tandem with the 6GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage with no expansion support via microSD card. On the software side, the smartphone boots stock version of Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.

The battery is also on the smaller side rated at 2,510mAh. The battery is supported by 15W fast charging and capable of lasting through a day on normal usage.

The fingerprint scanner is mounted on the iconic Motorola RAZR’s chin that also includes the antenna bands and speakers. At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port while the 3.5mm headphone jack doesn’t make the cut. Amongst other things, the Motorola RAZR 2019 supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC.
