Display Quality

As mentioned in the specifications, the monitor uses a TN panel for display which is great for a monitor of this price point. TN panels usually don’t have a very good viewing angle range but this panel on the monitor offers a viewing angle range of 170/160. This is very useful when you sometimes have to use the monitors sideways in those rare cases. BenQ has also included HDR or High Dynamic Range functionalities for this monitor which means you will be able to watch HDR content on this 10-bit display quite easily.

Websites such as YouTube have adopted the HDR format already and just to test this out, we ran this video on the monitor. The results were quite exceptional and the details even in the shadows were very impressive to see. BenQ has made sure to add their Brightness Intelligence Plus Technology which adjusts the brightness and the color temperature of the monitor automatically, based on the content that is being viewed on the monitor. This technology also offers the same type of adjustment using the ambient light conditions in the environment that this monitor is being used in.

Also, expect AMD’s FreeSync technology to be present on this monitor which will make this monitor a must get for 4K gaming if you want a 4K monitor in a budget. The default refresh rate on this thing is 60Hz but with AMD’s variable refresh rate technology – FreeSync, the monitor will get rid of issues such as ghosting, screen tearing, artifacts and more on the display while gaming. In fact, 4K gaming can be one of the best uses for the monitor if you’re on a budget.

Media Playback

The BenQ EL2870U comes with a hotkey switch that you can use to switch between four different levels of HDR and Brightness Intelligence Plus Technology. This will let you switch between the most suitable clarity for the content that you want to watch on the monitor. This level of customization on the level of media playback is hardly offered in any other monitor or TV.

The media playback is further enhanced by Smart focus and Super Resolution. The monitor also offers a 3.5mm audio jack which means you can easily connect your speakers or your favorite 3.5mm audio headphones for a much more immersive experience.

Connectivity & Audio

The monitor offers two HDMI 2.0 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4 port to help you connect the monitor to your output source. The HDMI 2.0 input has a much wider bandwidth that allows for 4K HDR content to be played on the monitor seamlessly.

Apart from that you also have a 3.5mm audio output jack on the monitor that will let you connect a headphone or a speaker setup to your monitor to directly stream the audio. The monitor also has built-in dual audio speakers. The speaker setup here has two 2W speakers which are great to have but you would probably want to connect better speakers with the monitor.

Stand Features

The monitor supports VESA mount which can be used to mount the monitor on a wall or on an arm stand. This is great for those who want to upgrade from the stand that comes with the monitor.

The default stand itself is quite basic and it is 100% understandable that BenQ has done this in order to save some cost on the monitor. The default stand gives you a range of -5˚ to – 15˚.

Wrapping it up!

The BenQ EL2870U is a great choice for anyone who wants to go 4K in a budget. This monitor and the lower cost of the monitor is enabled by the TN panel and the basic stand. BenQ has also gone ahead and added AMD’s FreeSync which makes the monitor a great choice for people who want to experience 4K gaming. For a price tag of Rs. 35,000 this is a really nice monitor that anyone would love to have, provided you have a system powerful enough to run this thing.
