Design and Build

When it comes to the build of VivoBook 14 X403, we should definitely say that for this price, this is probably the best-built laptop out there. It has all-metal chassis which weighs in just around 1.3kg and has a 16mm-thin profile which makes it pretty portable.

This laptop has undergone some insane build tests including the military-grade MIL-STD 810G test and has passed it with a very good score. So if you are someone who was doubting about the build of this laptop, we would like you to think again.

Anyways, the laptop has little to no flex at all when it comes to the lid of this device. Also, we did not find any issues with the hinges as well. Around the screen, you can find thin 4.1mm bezel which makes this laptop with 87% screen-to-body ratio. There is the Asus branding in the middle of the laptop which is pretty identical to all of the offerings from the company.

Display

The VivoBook 14 X403 has a 14-inch Full HD Display which produces some really nice colours. Shadows and the blacks are also quite nice on this IPS Panel. This display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with 178° wide-view technology. So it is actually a pretty good pick for those who are willing to spend a lot of time watching movies on their laptop. Not to forget, the laptop also supports ASUS Tru2Life Video technology which makes sure that the users get an amazing experience of streaming videos on this laptop.

This is a Four-sided NanoEdge display with a really thin bezel of 4.1mm on each side. It helps the device maintain an amazing screen to body ratio of 87%. Talking about the ratio, the display on the VivoBook 14 X403 has an aspect ratio of 16:9. The sunlight eligibility also seems to be decent with this display just in case if you plan to use it in outdoor conditions.

Hardware – Processing & GPU Performance

The processor on the VivoBook 14 X403 is an Intel i5 8th Generation, which as you might have expected performs pretty well when it comes to everyday tasks and even some heavy tasks like rendering or editing videos. This i5 chip is coupled up with 512 GB of SSD and 8 GB of RAM. This is a pretty decent configuration at this price. Though, you should not think about playing some heavy title games on this laptop since it does not comes with a dedicated Graphics Card.

We were able to open around 10 programs and applications in the background like MS Word, Excel and the laptop does not seem to stutter even a little bit. So if you are someone who was planning to get this device for office tasks or normal usage, then you should not face any issues at all. With that being said, let us now take a look at Storage & Memory (RAM).

Storage & Memory (RAM)

The Asus’s VivoBook 14 X403 comes with 512 GB SATA Solid State Drive for the storage. Now, since the laptop comes with Windows 10 Home pre-installed, we had around 446 GB of Free SSD Storage out of the box. Needless to say, this PCIe SSD on the VivoBook 14 X403 performs pretty well and has some really good speeds. Coming to the main memory or RAM, the VivoBook 14 comes with a total of 8 GB of Onboard RAM which is clocked at a speed of 2133MHz and performs really well. This, by the way, is an LPDDR3 RAM. With that being said, let us now take a look at the Keyboard & Trackpad of this laptop.

Keyboard & Trackpad

The VivoBook 14 X403 comes with an ergonomically-designed backlit keyboard which is a chiclet keyboard. We did try out typing on this keyboard, and we didn’t face any issues at all. The space between the keys is decent and the keyboard has a 1.4mm key travel for comfortable typing. For those of you who were wondering, Yes, this keyboard does have backlit which helps you type in dark. Unfortunately, this is not an RGB backlit, but it still gets the job done.

This laptop comes with a large glass-covered touchpad. We did found it pretty handy, it is pretty huge, so you should not really face any issues with it. Also, this touchpad does support Windows 10 touchpad gestures including multi-gesture input for those of you who were wondering.

Battery

One of the main attractions with the Asus VivoBook 14 X403 is its battery. This laptop comes with a 72Wh 4-cell battery. Asus claims the battery to last up to 24 hours. Well, if you ask us, we would say, It might last you a day if you are a light or minimal user.

However, if you are someone who watches a lot of videos online with the brightness to the max, then still the laptop lasts for 10-12 hours which is amazing. Anyways, if we compare the battery life of this laptop with its competitors, then we can definitely say that it does give them a run for their money. It is undoubtedly one of the best laptops in terms of battery life.
