Asus Transformer 3 Pro Quick Review

The hybrid laptop market is hot right now. Every tech giant out there is trying to make the best hybrid laptop available in the market. One can say that Microsoft has till, to some extent achieved that position with Microsoft Surface Pro 4 but Asus too has its eye on that position as they came up with Asus Transformer 3 Pro. Transformer 3 Pro is Asus’ contender in the battle of making the best hybrid. But is it actually the one? Let’s find out.

From the design itself, one can clearly make out that Asus is trying to make something similar to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4. Both of the tablets look identical, though on Transformer 3 Pro the display is bigger by 0.3-inches but the aspect ratio is exactly same i.e 3:2.

In terms of thickness, it is near about 8.5 mm and the kickstand on the back of the tablet is again similar to the Surface. Actually, the kickstand on almost all the hybrids is almost identical so one can’t say or blame Asus for copying that.

The tablet feels premium and the material used to make it feels solid. It is constructed out of aluminum-magnesium alloy which makes it light in weight without compromising on the build quality. The ports and the slots are well placed. It would have been better if the company provided the users with an additional USB slot.

Overall, Asus Transformer 3 Pro is a good looking 2-in1 tablet which offers premium build quality.

Asus has nailed the job with the display on this tablet. Transformer 3 Pro runs on Windows 10 which is exactly not the most touch friendly OS that you can find but still basic gestures work pretty well. The device has a 12.6-inch 3K display with 2880 by 1920 pixels resolution and 275ppi pixel density.

The display is able to produce the colors pretty accurately. The details are also really sharp. The stylus that you get with the tablet turns out to be a decent performed, it works properly and the different pressure levels turn out to be useful, especially in graphics related work.

The sad part about the stylus is that it can’t be magnetically attached to the tablet, thus it is prone to be lost. The good part about this stylus is that you don’t have to buy it separately; it is included with the price you pay for the tablet.

If I were, to sum up about the Transformer 3 Pro’s performance then I would say that it is powerful but can do better. Transformer 3 Pro comes with an Intel i7 processor with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage.  There is another variant that comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage and an Intel i5 processor.

If you compare the performance of Transformer 3 Pro i7 variant then you will find it to be equivalent to the Surface’s i5 variant.  The sad part is that the processor never jumps ahead of 1.9GHz and it is even throttled when one tries to play games on it resulting in frame skips.

But this device is not meant for gaming so we can’t really complain. It does handle normal apps and day to day tasks easily without any issues. It is not the most powerful 2-in-1 product available in the market but it still can still handle most of your apps and software.

When you put a high-resolution touch screen, PC-class processor, and a small battery, all you get is a short battery backup. Using the tablet for light work such as browsing, emails, typing etc resulted in a 5-hour battery backup. Whereas streaming an HD video continuously provided a backup of just 4.5 hours.

Asus Transformer 3 Pro is a great tablet and comes with great specifications a performance but would you call it the best hybrid in the market?. This tablet provides great performance but loses points when it comes to battery life.

If you look at this tablet then you will realize that Asus is actually providing the same specifications as there are in other hybrids but just at a lower price. Also, the keyboard as well as the stylus is provided in the price which makes it a pretty good deal.

Thus, Asus Transformer 3 Pro can be a good choice for those who are looking to get a decent hybrid laptop/tablet at a low price.
