ASUS 6z launched with 48MP Dual Flip cameras and 5,000mAh battery in India; price starts at 31,999 INR

Following the Delhi court order that stopped ASUS from using the ZenFone branding in the Indian market, the Taiwanese company tweaked the moniker of the ASUS ZenFone 6 to the ASUS 6z and launched the device today in India with a starting price of INR31,999. Its global version, the ASUS ZenFone 6, had launched in the middle of May succeeding the ASUS ZenFone 5 from last year.

The Asus 6z is a flagship-grade phone aimed at taking on the OnePlus 7. The smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and a beefy 5,000mAh battery but its motorized flip camera wins brawny points for it. Its dual –rear-camera setup smoothly flips up to double as selfie cameras when in need, allowing the three-side bezel-less and notch-less design for the device.

The glass-metal-glass design ASUS 6z looks similar to ROG phone, however, lacks its glitzy exhaust vents and LED insignia. It flaunts a 6.4-inch full HD+ IPS LCD NanoEdge display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 600 nit brightness, and HDR 10 support. Laced with 3D curved glass it is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and Gorilla Glass 3 on the back.

Notably, the ASUS 6z lacks the AMOLED display, resulting in the absence of the in-display fingerprint scanner. Nonetheless, it has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock for biometric authentication.

In its gut, the ASUS 6z is powered by the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 640 GPU, 6GB/8GB RAM, and up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.

Coming to its most attractive aspect, the ASUS 6z mounts a dual-rear-camera setup comprising a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor coupled with a 13MP 125-degree ultra-wide-angle sensor. Since there is no dedicated selfie camera unit, the rear setup itself flips up to 180-degree to serve as selfie camera on the front. The camera module brings in dual LED flash and auto Laser autofocus, but skips the OIS and rather banks on EIS for stability. It, however, records videos at Ultra HD 4K resolution at 60 fps.

A mammoth 5,000mAh battery backed by Qualcomm 4.0 fast charging over USB Type-C supplies juice to the device. Furthermore, it is enabled by 10W fast reverse charging support. On the software side of things, it boots ZenUI 6 running atop Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box, promising near stock experience and System wide Dark mode. ASUS claims the 6z will get Android Q and R updates in future.

The ASUS 6z is Widevine L1 certified and is armed with dual stereo speakers with dual smart amplifiers and a legacy 3.5mm audio jack. Other connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, triple card slots (two SIMs+ one microSD), and NFC.

The ASUS 6z will go on sale starting June 26 exclusively on Flipkart. The smartphone is priced at INR31,999 for  6GB RAM+64GB storge base model and INR34,999 and INR39,999 for 6GB RAM+128GB and 8GB RAM+256GB models respectively.
