Look and Design

It is almost impossible to tell the difference in Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G just by looking at the devices. The 4G variant looks almost similar to the 3G version. The Note 4G measures 9.45 mm and weighs 185 grams which is quite normal for phablets. The black front face looks amazing which is supported by the shiny white rear shell.

There is no branding on the front and just a small silver logo on the lower back side of the device. All the buttons like power and volume are on the right side of the device with left side completely blank and free. There are three red icons for the three buttons just below the screen.

The 3.5 mm jack for headphones is on the top of the phone while the micro-USB port is on the bottom side. Unlike Redmi Note which offered the dual SIM facility, Note 4G supports a single regular sized SIM and you will need to take out the battery to insert SIM and memory card.

All in all, the device has got amazing looks and as it goes with the 5.5 inch screen devices, you will need both your hands to operate it.

Display

It would not be an exaggeration if we say that Redmi Note 4G has got the best display in its class. It has got a 5.5 inch HD IPS display. The display is sharp enough and shows rich oversaturated colors. The device has got an amazing 178 degree viewing angle which makes photos and videos look much better and clearer.

Despite all these things, there is one downside of the display, which is its brightness. It becomes very much difficult to read something on the screen when it is exposed to sunlight, as it is not able to maintain better contrast and sharpness. Apart from that, the display is wonderful and worth the price.

Software and Operating System

The Note 4G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and uses the MiUI operating system which is based on Kitkat 4.2. MIUI is very much easy to use and offers many features which are quite useful. There is no regular app drawer, but you can install one if you want.

All the apps which you install are placed on the home screen automatically and widgets too share the same space. It has got a dynamic lockscreen and there are ten different options to customize the interface. A user can use custom theme and can also change the toggle in the settings. Like every other Chinese smartphones, the Note 4G also come with an inbuilt security app and an app which manages the performance and battery.

One of the good things about the interface is that, SwiftKey app comes preloaded with the device. Although, the interface doesn’t look as clean and good as the one which is offered by Lollipop but still it is quite good despite being an older version of the Android. There is no news about the Lollipop update, but it is pretty much sure that it will come soon along with the next version of MiUI.

Performance

As we mentioned that the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and is supported by a 2GB RAM, it delivers a very good performance. The processor runs at 1.6GHz and handles all the tasks without any lag. Scrolling is smooth and apps open quickly without any trouble. The GPS works well and HD videos run quite smoothly.

We tried playing some heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Nova 3 with maximum graphic settings and there was no performance issue. There was no lag and no heating.

The call quality is amazing and very much audible. The device has got good speakers and you can’t complain much at this price range.

Camera

The device has got 13 MP rear camera which offers clear and sharp images. Although, being a 13 MP camera, it should have offered many detailed pictures, but going by the price of the device, the quality is quite good. Low light mode is not that good as you may be expecting.

The device is capable of recording full HD images and the 5 MP rear camera is able to click good selfies. There is an LED flash and other features include face recognition, HDR, Auto Focus and real time Filters. Concluding about the camera quality, it can be said that it is very much good in this price range.

Battery

The phone is equipped with a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery which offers a talk time of 38 hours and standby time of 775 hours over 2G networks. It can be said battery is good and can run for a complete day on normal use.
