Xiaomi has today announced a price cut of 1000 INR for Xiaomi Redmi 2, which will now be available for 5,999 INR. It is available in White and grey color variants on company’s own online portal, Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal as well as other major mobile and retail outlets.
Xiaomi had first launched Xiaomi Redmi 2 in India for the price of 6,999 INR on March 12, 2015 as an improvement over Xiaomi’s best selling smartphone, Redmi 1S. Back then, it was also the first Xiaomi smartphone with dual 4G SIM card slots.
As far as specifications are concerned, Xiaomi Redmi 2 features a 4.7 inch HD IPS display which amounts to 312 ppi sharpness and is quite vibrant. It is powered by 1.2 GHz 64 bit Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory which can be further expanded by up to 32 GB using microSD card.
On the photography front, Xiaomi Redmi 2 sports a good quality 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front selfie camera with BSI sensor and HD video recording. It also houses a 2200 mAh battery with Quick Charge 1.0 supported. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with MiUI 6 on top, which is rich in customization options and features.
Connectivity options of this smartphone include EDGE, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dual SIM functionality, Micro USB port and 3.5 mm audio jack.
The company has also slashed the price of Redmi Note 4G about a week ago and Mi 4 (both 16 GB and 64 GB variants) a month ago. Redmi Note 4G price was reduced by Rs. 2000 from the original price of 9,999 INR and it is now available for 7,999 INR. Xiaomi Mi4 16 GB received a price cut of Rs. 3,000 last month and now available at 14,999 INR.
Since Xiaomi has longer launch cycles, it is only wise to slash prices after a time period to remain competitive. Xiaomi Redmi 2 sounds like a steel for 5,999 INR.
