Xiaomi Redmi 2, an Affordable 4G LTE smartphone Announced in China

The world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has announced its new entry level smartphone, Redmi 2 in China on Sunday, 4th January 2015. This device will be available for CNY 699 (approximately 7,000 INR) from 9th January onwards.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 incorporates a 4.7 inch HD IPS display which amounts to 312 pixels per inches. It is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, assisted by 1 GB  RAM and 8 GB ROM, which can be further expanded by up to 32 GB using Micro SD card.

Redmi 2 sports a 8 MP camera on its rear side with LED flash, f2.2 aperture lens and BSI sensor. There is a 2 MP camera at front for selfie fans and video chats as well. Redmi Note 2 houses a 2200mAh battery inside with no words on talk time or standby time.  Other features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, GLONASS, Micro USB port and dual SIM functionality.

On the software front, the smartphone is running Android 4.4 KitKat based MIUI 6, which doesn’t support 64 bit computing. Xiaomi will upgrade this to Lollipop based ROM later in order to fully realize advantages of 64 bit architecture.

Redmi 2 supports 4G LTE on both SIM cards and also comes in two variants China Unicom and China Telecom.  The device will be available in five attractive color options include Yellow, Pink, Green, White, and Black.

The successor of Redmi 1s, Redmi 2 is available for pre-booking and will go on sale starting from 9th January 2015 onwards in China and priced at CNY 699. Xiaomi didn’t mention any dates for availability in other markets.
