Wiio WI3 Quick Review – No More Battery Problem

Wiio started its journey as a small seller on Ebay. It is basically a start-up which started from Jaipur. Wiio claims that they have sold 10,000 units of their first phone Wiio WI5. Wiio 5 was a mid-range phone but, for Wiio it was their flagship device. After the success of their previous devices, Wiio has come up with yet another smartphone and this time they are trying to compete in the price range of under INR 8000. Wiio WI3 is priced at INR 5999 and will face competition from some big names like Lenovo, Asus, Motorola, and Redmi. Let’s see what Wiio WI3 is capable of.

Design and look

The phone is made up of high quality plastic and has got metallic side. Despite being made up of plastic, the phone doesn’t feel like a cheap plastic product. The device has got premium finish on back plate. There is no branding on the front side of the phone. The phone has got rounded edges from all the sides which makes it look beautiful.

The rear camera is placed at the top left side of the panel and is not at the corner or at the middle. The camera is placed in between top left and centre of the back panel. The camera bulges out a little and there is Wiio branding on the middle of the back side.

The design of the phone is simple and looks elegant. Wiio has not experimented much with the design and has tried it to keep it simple. The build quality is at par with any other device in this price segment.

The 5 inch qHD display is decent. The display has got pixel resolution of 960×540 pixels which is decent enough at this price but there are other devices which offer a HD display. The display offers good colour saturation and you cannot ask for more at 5999 bucks. The viewing angles are also good and all in all you will have a good experience while using screen of Wiio WI3. The display is IPS LCD with pixel density of 221ppi.

Hardware & Performance

Wiio WI3 is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6582 processor and is supported by a 1GB of RAM. The phone is capable of handling normal multitasking and can deliver lag free usage if used moderately. It offers 8 GB of internal storage out of which 5.5 GB will be available to user.

The internal storage can be expanded up to 32GB by using a microSD card. It is a low range smartphone so you can’t expect to do heavy gaming on it. The device was able to run high end games like Asphalt 8 easily on medium settings.

Wiio WI3 runs on Android 4.4.2 out of the box. The UI is lag free and easy to use. Apps like Quick Office comes pre-installed with the device. There is nothing special in the software department. UI is smooth and we didn’t face any issues while navigating through the home screens or while opening/closing the apps.

The phone is equipped with an 8MP rear camera with auto focus and LED Flash. The front camera is of 2MP. The camera offers features like Multishots, Face Detection, HDR Mode, Panorama and Geo-tagging. No doubt, camera is good but not the best in the class. Here are some sample images captured using the back camera:

Overall, the quality of captured images is decent and the camera can be used for occasional photography.

This is the most important department of the phone. The phone is fuelled by a 4000 mAh of battery which is certainly the best in class. It is capable of delivering a talk time of 9 hours and standby time of mammoth 800 hours. With moderate usage the phone easily lasted for around 2 days which is very impressive.

Final Verdict

Wiio WI3 is a decent affordable smartphone available in the Indian market. It is priced at INR 5,999 and is available exclusively on Snapdeal. It is definitely a good choice for the users looking for an affordable phone with great battery backup. There is no flash sale or pre-order process so you don’t need to worry about stocks of the phone.
