Vivo had a great run in 2016 where it realized unprecedented growth and increased its market share by about 10 percent in India. And its selfie-first phones had a major part to play in this success. The global smartphone maker began this new year with the launch of Vivo V5 Plus, a one of its kind smartphone that includes two selfie cameras at the front.
If you live in India, it should be amply clear that the selfie wave has taken the youth by a storm. The erstwhile ‘secondary camera’ has now become a primary need of the consumers and the Vivo V5 Plus give the front shooter its due credit.
On the front of the handset, you will find a 20MP image sensor (IMX376) with large 1/ 2.8 – inch sensor size co-engineered with Sony. The sensor is also aided by a 5p lens with wide f/2.0 aperture. Besides this Sony sensor, another 8MP sensor is also present that can capture the depth of field information to add artistic Bokeh effects in clicked selfies.
With the help of two sensors, the camera can determine what lies in the foreground and what constitutes the image backdrop. To use the dual camera setup, you can simply switch to the Bokeh mode in the camera app. You can tap on the object you wish to focus on and set the aperture between F0.95 and F16.
You can also click the images first and adjust F-stop number later while viewing the images in the gallery. This is an awesome feature that works perfectly on the Vivo V5 Plus. Blurring the selfie background can make the main selfie subject pop in a soothing manner. We have been using the feature for a while now and must admit that this could just be the revolution selfie enthusiasts have been waiting for.
Other than the two camera tech, the selfie sensor also benefits from advanced selfie software with new Vivo beautify mode and a moonlight fill flash that can be used to evenly light your selfie frames in dark ambiance.
As wonderful as the front camera on Vivo V5 Plus is, the handset is surely not a one trick pony. There is a lot more to cherish. To start with, the V5 Plus has a gorgeous full metal design with U-shaped antenna bands on top and bottom. The front comes laden with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 that further enhances the touch and feel of the phone besides making it super resistant to scratches.
In spite of the slim design, Vivo managed to house in a 3055mAh battery inside and the power efficient 14nm FinFET process based Snapdragon 625 chipset ensures that it lasts really long.
Other notable features include ample 64GB onboard storage, 16MP camera on the rear that captures accurate and detailed images even in low lighting, 4GB RAM, intuitive Funtouch OS, crystal clear Hi-Fi audio, and a miraculously fast fingerprint sensor.
A great smartphone isn’t the one that has the best possible hardware specifications. That would simply be too easy to accomplish. The perfect smartphone, however, is the one that delivers the perfect usage experience, a fact that the Vivo V5 Plus epitomizes. The new Vivo flagship impresses in all spheres but its ability to churn out perfect selfies effortlessly veritably makes it a game changer.
