It’s not uncommon for manufacturers to one-up each other in terms of hardware, but Huawei’s recently launched Honor 7X has redefined what one might expect of a budget phone and has set some unprecedented benchmarks. That probably explains why the phone keeps running out of stock in every sale We took the handset for a spin and were surprised by how consistent and exhilarating the overall experience was. Let’s enumerate five reasons for why Honor 7X should be your next smartphone.
The Honor 7X has a stunning design and flaunts a full metal body. What matters even more than the way it looks is the way it feels when held in hand. The use of 18:9 display allows Honor to fit-in a 6-inch display in a 5.5-inch phone body without compromising on the usability. Also, the Honor 7X measures just 7.6mm in thickness, which should ensure that it still looks palatable when you plant it in a case.
The phone is extremely comfortable to handle and operate, and you will be excited every time you pick it up.
18:9 displays are slowly and steadily seeping into the affordable price range, but most of the smartphones in the sub 15K category compromise with quality. Most of these phones have HD+ resolution, which is certainly scanty for a modern handset.
The Honor 7X, however, has an excellent quality full HD full-view panel that’s immersive and gorgeous. The contrast is very high, white-balance and colors are spot on, and the dynamic range is impressively wide. This is simply the best display you can hope for on an affordable phone as of today.
Another major highlight of the Honor 7X is its camera performance. The handset has a 16MP primary rear camera sensor that can shoot detailed shots even indoors. There is another 2MP depth sensor accompanying the primary rear camera. Together, the two cameras are used by the deft camera software to isolate the image subject from its background, which is then blurred for DSLR like bokeh effect.
The Portrait mode, as this feature is widely known, works like a charm on the Honor 7X and that’s because all the effort Huawei has put in perfecting the software over the last few years.
Not only the portrait shots but also the normal shots clicked on the Honor 7X will blow your socks off. The phone manages to capture the minutest of details and the metering is consistently perfect. Camera experience exceeds what you’d expect for even twice the price.
The Honor 7X is powered by 2.36GHz octa-core Kirin 659 chipset paired with 4GB RAM. The hardware is designed by Huawei in-house and thus is well optimized with the EMUI 5.0 software running on the phone. You can choose between 32GB and 64GB storage options depending on your usage and both are blazing fast.
The software includes intuitive gesture support, fingerprint gestures, effective battery saver modes, dual apps, display calibration adjustment presets and more. The software has just about everything you would ever need without being overwhelming. All options are present right where you’d expect them to be and thus navigating through the OS is very simple.
The 3340mAh battery on the Honor 7X can last really long. On days we don’t use our phone much we could make it to the end of our day with over 68 percent juice remaining in the tank. On particularly heavy usage days, we still had about 40 percent remaining before we hit bedtime. Not having to worry about running out of charge certainly enhances the practical user experience significantly.
