Asus recently unveiled its premium third generation Zenfone models in India, thus making a powerful statement and expanding its reach beyond the affordable market. The Zenfone 3 does a lot of things right and is a very compelling option if you are looking for a mid-range handset. Here are 5 reasons for why you should consider Asus Zenfone 3 as your next smartphone.
Design and Build
The Asus Zenfone 3 flaunts a metal frame sandwiched between 2 layers of 2.5D Gorilla Glass. By now, you might have seen this sort of or similar construction on a smartphone, but Asus’s efficient execution gives the Zenfone 3 a refreshing aura.
Both the front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The company has provided a concentric circle pattern under the rear glass which creates an attractive pattern when viewed at an angle. The device comes with a rounded aluminium alloy frame with a finely sandblasted surface.
The phone pretty incredible and feels very premium in hands. There is USB Type-C port and speakers at the bottom and a 3.5mm audio jack on top. The Power button and volume rockers are present on the right edge and a SIM tray slot placed on the left edge. There is a primary camera with LED flash and a fingerprint sensor on its rear.
The phone looks very premium, and it is definitely one of the best-looking smartphone available in the market. The phone is available in 4 different colours – Moonlight White, Shimmer Gold, Aqua Blue and Sapphire Black.
Zenfone 3 comes in two variants in India. One comes with 5.5-inch display, and another one has a more compact 5.2-inch display. Both these variants offer full HD sharpness and well-balanced colors. 600 nits of brightness will ensure that everything is readily visible even under the direct sun. You can choose any variant depending on what size you are comfortable with, but both options feel gorgeous.
Zenfone 3 features a 16 MP rear camera with dual-tone LED Flash, PDAF, Laser AF, f/2.0 aperture, 6P Largan lens, 4 Stop OIS, EIS, and PixelMaster 3.0 support. The large camera sensor, wide aperture, and optical image stabilization ensures great performance even in low lighting. Besides, the camera app also has a very elaborate Manual Mode for photography enthusiasts.
Talking in detail, the rear camera on Zenfone 3 users Sony Exmor RS IMX298 sensor and Deep Trench Isolation (DTI) technology to ensure high-quality images with good details. DTI prevents light hitting the surface of a pixel from leaking to its neighbouring pixel. Additionally, the phone comes with a color correction sensor which detects the scene lighting and ensures that the captured photos look natural and accurate.
Zenfone 3 comes with the Tritech Autofocus which offers 3 different autofocus technologies – laser autofocus, Phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and contrast detection focus. This allows the camera to focus at an object in 0.03 seconds and it can also autofocus continuously on a moving object.
The phone users 4 Axis Optical Image stabilisation and 3 Axis Electronic Image Stabilisation to ensure crisp photos and videos even with shaky hands. The OIS system detects hand movements along X Axis, Y Axis, Pitch & yaw and instantaneously moves the sensor in the required direction to give you stable shots. The EIS uses powerful imaging processing by comparing frames to further remove the shaking motion.
You can even capture 4K videos using the back camera and thanks to the OIS & EIS support the videos are crisp and smooth. The software also allows you to directly open camera app using volume rocker or double-press of the home button. It also has an 8 MP frontal sensor with f/2.0 aperture that helps click great selfies.
After testing this camera, we can say that it is much faster than previous Zenfone series, and can focus and click images faster. The low light performance is also very good. So, if you are someone who wants to click a lot of photos, then Asus Zenfone 3 won’t disappoint you. Here are Some sample images captured using the back camera of Zenfone 3:
Both Zenfone 3 variants are powered by 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. The bigger variant of Zenfone 3 has 4GB of RAM out of which 3 GB of RAM is available on first boot. The base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage will also suffice for most people. The hardware employed is very powerful, and thus the Zenfone 3 can handle all your performance needs without breaking a sweat.
The device handled multi-tasking and high-end gaming without any issues. Even after playing games on the device for 30 mins there was no heating issue which ensures that you can use the phone for long gaming sessions without worrying about the device getting hot.
Zenfone 3 comes with the SonicMaster technology featuring a new NXP Smart Amp and Hi-Res Audio Support. Compared to the previous generation Zenfone devices, Zenfone 3 speaker is 20% louder with 42% less distortion. The 5.2 inch variant comes with a 2,650 mAh battery and the 5.5 inch variant has a 3,000 mAh battery which provides up to 33 hours of talk time on 3G network. This has been made possible by using highly power efficient Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with various battery optimisations done by the company.
The Zenfone 3 runs on all new Zen UI 3.0 which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The smartphone works smoothly with this company’s new interface and has no lag. Asus still has a few third-party apps pre-installed on the device like Swift keyboard, Amazon Kindle, etc. which are useful for most of the users but you can uninstall them in case you don’t want to use these apps.
