Xperia Tipo is available in India at a price tag of Rs 9500. Recently we did the Unboxing of the Sony Xperia Tipo and today we are going to share our views about the device.

Design & Display

Xperia Tipo has a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen. The display has a 320X480 pixels resolution. It comes with a Scratch-resistant glass which is quite decent. The scratch resistant glass would not be as good as gorilla glass but since it is an entry level smartphone you cannot expect everything. The phone has a 103 x 57 x 13 mm dimension and weights just 99.4 grams.

Xperia Tipo is powered by a 800mHz Qualcomm MSM7225A processor, Adreno 200 GPU and 512MB RAM. The phone comes with 2.9GB internal storage our of which 2.5GB is user accessible. The phone also has a microSD slot for expanding the storage.

Talking about the connectivity features, Xperia Tipo have Wi-fi support, Bluetooth 2.1, RDS and 3G. Overall, the phone has quite good specs for an entry level smartphone. It outshines other smartphones in the same price range like galaxy y, htc explorer etc.

The Sony Xperia Tipo runs on Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Sony’s Timescape UI. Custom UI brings lots of new widgets and apps to the phone.

You can use the Mediascape shortcut in the dock for quick access to the gallery, music, radio and camera right from the home screen. We did not face any problems while typing both in portrait as well as landscape mode. The browser in Xperia Tipo supports flash as well as HTML5.

The Music Player can play all the major audio formats and it lets you search music, view music by artist, albums and songs. The loudspeaker is pretty loud and we really liked the audio quality of Xperia Tipo loudspeaker. Another great app which comes pre-loaded in the phone is TrackID. You can easily record music from a tv or external speaker using the app and get the artist and track information of the recorded music.

The phone has a 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera. You can even launch the camera app quickly by swiping to left from the lock screen. There is no dedicated camera in the phone.

The camera can capture images at 2048×1536 pixels resolution. The camera has a simple user interface and you can even enable touch capture on the phone. When you enable the touch capture you can capture images by simply touching the screen.

Here are some of the sample images taken using the Xperia Tipo Camera :

The picture quality of the captured images is decent for a 3.2 megapixel camera. You cannot take images in low light conditions as the phone does not have a flash. The camera also supports VGA video recording.

Battery Life

Xperia Tipo comes with a 1500mAh removable battery. This is quite a good battery for a entry level smartphone.

The battery provides a talk time of upto 4.5 hours in 3G mode and upto 30 hours of music playback. With moderate usage the battery lasted for around 2 days. We are really impressed by the battery backup of the phone.

Xperia Tipo is one of the best entry level android smartphone. It is one of the few smartphones in this price range which comes with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The phone has good build quality and great design. The phone has decent hardware which can handle your most of the daily tasks. The battery backup of the phone is simply awesome. We highly recommend this phone to the users looking for an affordable android smartphone with android ICS.

Pros :

  • Android ICS
  • Good build Quality
  • Great Battery backup
  • Good loudspeaker

Cons :

  • Fixed focus camera
