After about 4 years, Sony India today launched a new flagship A-mount camera, the Alpha A99 II, priced at Rs. 2,49,990. This new full frame DSLR camera comes with Hybrid Phase Detection autofocus system and Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT), and will be catering to professionals, particularly sports and wildlife photographers.
The camera integrates a new front-end LSI and a newly designed shutter unit, to enable continuous shooting at up to 12fps with AF/AE tracking, using the 42.4MP sensor. As a result, you can efficiently shoot moving objects even in tricky lighting.
The electronic view finder display can show continuous live-view shooting at up to 8 fps with AF/AE tracking with minimal display lag.
The camera uses back-illuminated full-frame 42.4MP Exmor R CMOS sensor. Their is no optical low-pass filter and thus the camera is capable of capturing more details and textures.
The Hybrid Phase Detection AF System is enabled by combining a precision 79-point dedicated phase detection AF sensor with 399 focal plane phase detection AF points to produce a 79 hybrid cross AF point array.
Sony ɑ99 II can record high quality 4K footage at 100Mbps. A number of features designed for a professional movie production workflow are included such as picture profiles, time code and HDMI clear output and the new ɑ99 II now also offers gamma assist for real time S-Log monitoring and a zebra mode for easier exposure adjustment.
The new camera body also houses 5 axis image stabilisation system that debuted with ɑ7 II series of cameras. In spite of housing all the latest Sony technology, ɑ99 II is 8 percent compact compared to its predecessor. All major buttons and dials are sealed for dust and moisture resistance.
Sony ɑ99 II will be available in India starting November 21. Sony is also bundling High Speed Class 10 SF-64UX2, Micro HDMI Cable, and a Carrying case with it.
