Samsung Galaxy Camera measures around 128.7 x 70.8 x 19.1 mm and weighs 300 grams. So definitely you won’t be carrying it like a smartphone due to it’s dimensions and weight. It comes with a 4.8 inch Super Clear LCD capacitive touchscreen which has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The display comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
Galaxy Camera comes with a 23 mm wide angle lens and 21x optical zoom.
On the top of the camera you have a sliding control to zoom in or zoom out. Along with the zoom controls you have a button for capturing the images. In the center you have a power/lock key. On the left corner you have a popup xenon flash.
On the left side you have a button to open the flash and a loud speaker.
On the right side you have a micro USB port for data transfer and for charging your camera. You also have a lanyard slot on the right side.
At the bottom of the device you have a tripod mount and a small compartment having battery slot, HDMI port, micro SD card slot and mirco SIM card slot.
Overall, the device has a strong build quality. The design of the camera allows you to use it in either portrait or the landscape mode without any problems.
Galaxy Camera is runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS along with Samsung Touchwiz UI. You will also get dedicated camera apps and widgets pre installed on the device.
The camera works just like any other Android smartphone but there is 1 limitation i.e you cannot make a call via the device. Though you can send SMS and even use Whatsapp on the camera but you cannot make a call.
Talking about the features and settings, Galaxy camera offers you all the features present in any of the high end Android smartphone like Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G support, Bluetooth etc. You get a normal settings option in the device where you can configure these options according to your preferences. You can also access these options via the notification drop down bar.
You get some some apps like DropBox, Instagram etc pre installed on the device.
Besides these you also get few others apps to edit images & videos captured using the device. One of the cool features present in the Camera is the S-Voice just like Samsung S3. You can use various voice commands to control the device and you can even capture an image using the voice command.
Finally coming to the main attraction or feature of the device i.e Camera. The device comes with a Wide-angle 23mm lens and 21x Optical Zoom. It comes with optical image stabilization which helps in capturing the images with great quality even with shaky hands.
The camera has a different UI as compare to the other android smartphones and this was quite obvious too. You have main controls present on the right side of the screen. You have a camera icon to capture images and avideo icon to start recording a video. A special icon called the Mode is present between the above two mentioned icons. It is used to shift between various modes present in the camera.
At the bottom of the screen you would find a arrow pointing upwards which can be used to bring up the effect selection menu. You can select various effects like Sepia, Negative etc.
At the Top left corner there is a arrow pointing to the right which is used to access quick options like S-Voice, Flash, Self-Timer. It can also be used to go in main settings.
Now lets talk about various modes present on the device. When you tap on the Mode icon the screen would provide you 3 options i.e Auto Mode, Smart Mode amd Expert Mode. Auto Mode is the simplest one where the camera adjusts all settings according to the light and other conditions.
Then we have a smart mode which comes with number of predefined settings for various scenarios such as Macro image, continuous shot, long exposure shot etc. It is just like the Auto Mode with some more features for the users. In this case also the camera adjusts the settings you just need to choose a scenario.
Finally there is an Expert mode for the users who want to adjust every setting according to their preferences. This is a bit complex mode and is only recommended for people familiar with terms like Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO etc.

Galaxy Camera comes with 1650mAh Li-Ion removable battery. Once fully charged you can take upto 350 images without flash before the battery drains out. To preserve battery the camera can go into sleep mode and minimize the battery usage. If you don’t use the camera for a long period of time it would get switched off automatically.
While in the camera mode the battery drains out much faster.Overall, the battery backup is quite decent and you can easily capture lot of images using the device before the battery drains out. The only thing you need to keep in mind is not to play games or watch videos on the device other wise the battery will drain a lot faster.
Samsung Galaxy Camera is available in India for Rs 29,000. At this price point some users would prefer to opt for a DSLR. The Galaxy Camera may not be the best Camera available in the market but it surely the easiest one to use and play with. If you are looking for just a camera which can capture some good images then you should not opt for this device as there are lot of other cameras available in the market which do not run on Android OS but offer same or better image quality than the Galaxy Camera at a lower price.
