Design & Build Quality
Arya Z2 is undoubtedly one of the best budget smartphones in terms of build quality. The phone measures 147.1×73.7×7.55 mm and weighs around 155 grams. The front of the device is dominated by a 5 inch HD IPS OGS Touchscreen Display which has good touch response and viewing angles. The display is very bright but still outdoor/sunlight readability is average. The device is bit hard to operate using Single hand due to the presence of huge bezels around the display.
Above the display you have a 2 megapixel camera which is capable of capturing interpolated images of upto 5 megapixel. Along with the front facing camera you have an earpiece and hidden proximity and ambient light sensors.
Below the display you have three usual Android touch buttons – Menu, Home and back. You can also notice a small pin hole just below the menu button, it is the primary mic for voice calling.
On the right side you have the power/lock key and volume rocker is present on the other side. You can notice a glossy fake metallic finish on the sides which give this device a premium look. Both volume rocker and power key have metallic finish.
You have the 3.5mm Audio jack and micro USB port at the top of the device.
Moving to the back of the phone, it comes with a removable back panel which has a matte finish. When you hold the device it feels like that the back has a rubberized finish which is good for grip. But the back is a fingerprint and dust magnet which can be easily seen in the image below:
You can find a 8 megapixel camera along with LED flash, Arya Branding and loudspeaker outlet on the back of the device. The camera can capture interpolated images of upto 13 megapixels. Once you open the back cover, you can locate the two SIM card slots, a microSD card slot and 1800 mAh battery.
Overall, the phone has pretty good build quality and design. It is one of the best devices in Budget smartphone market in terms of build quality.
Hardware & Performance
Arya Z2 is powered by a 1.3 Ghz quad core processor along with 1 GB RAM and 4 GB internal storage. Many of the other smartphones in the same price segment offer 8GB storage but that won’t be an issue since you can increase the storage by using a microSD card of upto 32 GB.
We ran Antutu Benchmark on the device and it scored 18,902 points which is a decent score for a budget smartphone. For normal or daily use the device is pretty good. We did not face any kind of lag while navigating through the home screens or while opening/closing the apps. There is a small heating issue with the device where it gets heated up after making long calls or while playing games.
The device is capable of running most of the games available on the Android platform which is pretty good as it is just an entry level device. We played Dead Trigger 2 on the device and it ran pretty smoothly on the device without any issues. But don’t expect high quality or very smooth gaming experience for High end games. Talking about the connectivity features, it is a Dual SIM device and supports 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
The phone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and company have made slight modifications to the OS. Most of the features are like the stock Android except few things like the customized multitasking screen. C-launcher was also pre installed on the device but we can remove it easily to move back to the Basic Android launcher.
It comes pre-loaded with tons of apps like Amazon, Amazon kindle, Amazon app store, Baidu Browser, Du Speed Booster, DU Battery Saver, Mobogenie, MoboMarket, SnapPea etc. Only few of these applications are actually useful like Amazon app store, Du Battery Saver & speed booster. But don’t worry you can uninstall all the unnecessary apps.
Arya Z2 comes with a 8 megapixel back camera with LED flash. The camera supports various modes like Live Photo Mode, Beauty face mode and panorama mode. It also offers various other features like HDR, Face detection, Smile Shot, voice capture and continuous shot.
The camera can even capture interpolated images of upto 13 megapixels but we personally found that the 8 megapixel images are better and contains more details as compare to the interpolated images. Here are some sample images captured using the back camera of the device:
The quality of captured images is pretty decent. Always try to use the normal 8 megapixel images as it works better than the 13 megapixel interpolated images.
The phone comes with a 1800 mAh removable battery. The battery life is decent and with the moderate usage it lasted for an entire day. It might last for more than a day for light to moderate usage but for heavy users it will simply give up before the day ends.
Salora Arya Z2 is available in India for Rs 6,999 exclusively on Amazon.in. It is one of the best budget smartphones available in the market. The phone has great build quality, decent performance and a good display. The camera present on the device is decent and better than few other budget smartphones like Moto E.
