Rather unconventionally, Panasonic has chosen to launch its new home brewed UI – the Sail UI, on a budget smartphone, dubbed Panasonic T50. The handset costs 4,990 INR and will be available in Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, and Midnight Blue color options.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Pankaj Rana, Business Head, Mobility Division, Panasonic India, said, “Our latest introduction in the Indian market is a novelty because it arrives with the launch of Panasonic’s in-house software, the SAIL user interface. The UI is even integrated into a specialized SAIL camera. It is an app-driven smartphone which combines 3G connectivity and multi-app smoothness for a flawless user experience in a handheld device.”
As you would expect at this price point, hardware employed is pretty basic. The handset includes a 4.5 inch FWVGA display handled by 1.3GHz quad core chipset, paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. For photography, there is a basic 5MP rear and 2MP front camera combination, with LED flash support for the rear camera. Sail Camera software offers several shooting modes including Pose mode, Child mode, and Watermark.
The Sail UI, which is the highlight of this handset, is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The highlights of Sail UI includes several themes, special effects, and attractive animations. Panasonic T50 is 8.8 mm thick and houses a paltry 1600 mAh battery. Other features include Dual SIM card support, MicroSD card slot, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
