Obi Mobiles, which was founded by Ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, has today been rechristened to Obi Worldphones, and has launched two new flagship smartphones- SF1 and SJ1.5. While in their first innings, Obi named all its smartphones over animals, this time it wonders out of the jungle and into metropolitan cities. These smartphones have been named after cities, SF stand for San Francisco and SJ stand for San Jose.
The company touts that these smartphones are designed with high-end technology from Qualcomm, Dolby, Sony, Corning Incorporated, Google, MediaTek, Japan Display, Inc. and Samsung. The company also partnered with Ammunition studio based in San Francisco to design the smartphones and Ammunition has also developed Obi LifeSpeed custom UI based on Android.
SF1 flaunts with 5 inch full HD JDI In-cell display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and oleophobic coating on top. It is powered by 1.5GHz octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 CPU along with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of inbuilt memory, and for more demanding users there is a microSD card slot which supports up to 64GB.
It sports a 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera with LED flash. Backed by 3000mAh non removable battery and the device also comes with Dolby Audio which offers you great and clear surround sound. It also has 4G LTE connectivity and dual SIM support.
SJ1.5 comes with 5 inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (2.5D curved glass) protection and is equipped with 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek MT6580 processor paired with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM and an expansion slot for microSD card which supports up to 32GB.
It also has an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and OmniVision OV8865 sensor, an inbuilt 5 MP front facing camera for selfie lovers and is assisted by massive non removable 3000mAh battery.
Both these smartphones runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with company’s own UI on top. Connectivity features include EDGE / GPRS, 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Glonass, Micro USB port, dual SIM functionality, etc. Apart from all that, the smartphones comes preloaded with AVG Antivirus Pro, Swift Key, AccuWeather, Clean Master and color note.

SF1 16GB variant with 2GB RAM will be priced at $199 and 32GB variant with 3GB of RAM will be available at $249 while SJ1.5 is priced at $129. Global rollout of these smartphones will start in October and they will be initially available in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey and India.
