Nokia Asha 501 with New Swipe UI announced

Yesterday there was a rumor that Nokia would be launching the Asha 501 on 9th may i.e today. And guess what the rumors were right, today Nokia officially announced the Asha 501 at an event in New Delhi, India. Asha 501 is the latest and the 18th phone under the Asha Series. It comes with a new design which resembles the Nokia Lumia range and a totally new Swipe UI.

Nokia Asha 501 has a totally new design with a 3 inch capacitive touch screen. The device has just a single back button present below the display. Asha 501 is powered by a 1Ghz processor. It comes with 128MB of internal memory and a free 4GB microSD card with the retail package.

The device has a 3.2 megapixel camera at the back and comes with a 1200mAh battery. The battery life of the phone is pretty amazing, it can provide a talk time of around 17 hours and can remain on standby mode for upto 48 days (Single SIM). Yes, Asha 501 is a dual SIM feature phone and it can provide a 26days of Dual SIM standby time.

Talking about the software part, Asha 501 runs on a new Asha platform. The device can easily be operated using the swipe gesture. There are just 2 main screens present on the device, home screen and the fast lane. Fastlane consists of recently accessed items such as contacts, social networking messages etc. Home screen consists of the app icons.

Nokia Asha 501 would be available 6 colors – Bright Red, Bright Green, Cyan, Yellow, White and Black. The phone would be available in more than 90 countries from June 2013 for just $99 excluding taxes.
