MWC 2016: Samsung Galaxy S7 Brings Back MicroSD Card Along With Other Refinements

Samsung has unleashed the best phones it has ever made, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Design-wise, these handsets don’t qualify as major overhaul, but Samsung has refined them to a significant extent and that should make loads of difference.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 should be a delight for all users who prefer compact smartphones. Compared to Galaxy S6, the S7 is curvier which makes it easier to lift off the table and lends it a firm grip. The fingerprint sensor is also flatter. The handset includes a 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD display with 577 PPI Super AMOLED display with a 3D glass on top that bends ever so slightly on the edges.

Just like LG G5, Samsung has included an Always-On display. Since the handset is using a super AMOLED panel where each pixel is powered separately, the implementation is easy and also light on battery (0.5 percent per hour).

More importantly, the Galaxy S7 is IP68 water resistant certified (1.5 meter under water for up to 30 minutes). Also, Samsung brings back the MicroSD card support. The Galaxy S7 includes a hybrid SIM card slot which means you can choose between the second SIM card or MicroSD storage.

On the rear side, there is a 12MP camera with wide F1.7 aperture and Smart OIS. Samsung claims the new camera can squeeze in 96 percent more light than Galaxy S6 camera (It uses dual-pixel tech with large size pixels) for stellar low-light performance. On the front side, there is a 5MP front-facing camera, also with wide f/1.7 aperture lens.

Based on what country you belong to, you will get 2.2 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 820 processor or 2.3GHz Octa-Core Exynos 8 Octa 8890. The chipset is aided by 4GB LPDDR4 RAM along with 32GB/64GB storage. Other features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with GLONASS, USB 2.0, NFC and 3000 mAh battery with fast charging support.
