Xiaomi yesterday organized the grand launch of MIUI 7 in India, celebrating 5 years of MIUI, which now enjoys a grand user base of 150 million. MIUI 7 was earlier launched in China last week, with Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime. The event in India marked the global rollout of MIUI 7 beta version, which will be available for download from MIUI forums starting from 24th August, 2015.
The company claims that MIUI 7 comes with several changes and will significantly improve Xiaomi smartphone performance. It also helps you save up to 10 percent battery life in day to day usage and is 30% faster compared to MIUI 6.
MIUI 7 will sport a refreshed design, with 4 different UI overlays and several themes to choose from. If that weren’t enough, Xiaomi has also included a Muse Theme creator tool, which can be used by all users to create personal custom themes.
A Daily Lockscreen feature will be exclusive to India. This feature allows you to circulate HD wallpapers and other gallery images on your lockscreen. Showtime is another feature which allows you to set an animated video which will play on your friends and family members’ phones when you call them.
Baby Album is a feature, specially made for parents, which uses face recognition technology and collects all baby images and groups them in chronological order.
Other Made for India features include Visual IVR, Smart SMS filter, Quick OTP, Auto DND, MIUI Data Server and more. MIUI 7 will also support 10 Indian languages- Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese and Punjabi.
Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global, said: “MIUI 7 is a fresh new take on our immensely popular operating system, well-loved by over 150 million users. With so many exciting new enhancements, you will be able to feel the difference the moment you power on your phone running MIUI 7. With more new system UIs to choose from, customised profile videos for calls using Showtime and a variety of personalisation options, MIUI 7 is truly ‘Yours by Design’.”
