Micromax is currently one of the most popular smartphone companies in India. Cut-throat pricing and powerful specifications are the reasons which make Micromax the top mobile phone seller in the country. Micromax Canvas series is making a lot of buzz in the town and users are loving the concept of powerful yet affordable smartphones. Recently, the company launched the Canvas Tab P690 to mark its presence in the tablet market. Let’s see whether Micromax Canvas P690 is worth buying or not?
Looks and Design
Let’s come directly to the point. The tab has got great looks and you can’t get a better device at this price tag. The tab looks amazingly expensive and features a grey metal back panel finish. It is slim and compact in size with that 7.8mm thickness. Despite being an 8” tablet, it is light in weight and doesn’t look huge. The back side metal extends to the side panel with a slight curve in between that makes the device handling simple and easy.
The power button and volume rocker are on the side of the device and there is Micromax branding on the back side of the device. You will also see Intel’s branding on the lower back side. If design and looks are to be considered, it can be concluded that Canvas Tab P690 is a beautiful piece of technology.
The device features an impressive 8 inch HD display with a resolution of 1200 x 800 pixels. The display is far better than other tablets which costs even much more than P690. The colour saturation is apt and the colours look really good on the display. The display is perfect for reading e-books and for watching movies.
The only downside of the display is that it is a little bit reflective. It affects the visibility if you use the device in bright sunlight. In one line, the display is impressive.
Performance: Hardware and Software
The device runs on outdated Android 4.4.4 KitKat but, it is scheduled to get the Android 5.0 update soon. Micromax has done few changes in the interface and has made slight modifications to the normal standard UI.
Unlike normal tablets, Tab P690 offers two separate drop-down panels from the notifications bar. If you slide from the right side you will see normal quick settings options but, if you slide down from the left side you will see the new notifications. Micromax is also offering many free things with the tablets like e-books worth INR 1500 from Amazon’s Kindle Store and a three-month premium subscription from Saavn.
- 1.83 GHz Intel Atom Quad – Core Processor
- 1 GB RAM
- 8 Inch WXGA IPS Touchscreen Display
- Single SIM
- 5 MP Rear Camera
- 2 MP Front Camera
- 8 GB ROM
- USB OTG
- FM Radio
- 4000 mAh Battery
Coming to Hardware part, it is powered by Intel’s Quad Core 64 bit processor and is backed up by a 1 GB of RAM. The tablet delivers decent performance but, multitasking becomes difficult when you open five-six applications at the same time. There is 8GB of internal storage out of which only 3.8 GB is available for the user. However, you can expand the storage by using microSD card which can accommodate up to 32 GB of storage.
The camera is one disappointing thing about this tablet. There is a 5 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera. There is no flash at all so don’t even think about clicking images in the dark as you will only get complete black images with nothing else. The front camera is below average and you will have to spend hours to get that perfect selfie. If you are planning to buy a tablet for clicking some good photos, we will suggest not to consider Micromax Canvas Tab P690.
The battery is a major concern as tablets are mainly used for watching videos and playing high-end games and if the battery drains faster, it is of no use to buy a tablet. Tab P690 is powered by a 4000 mAh of battery and can stay alive for a day with normal usage. It could have been better but, it is justifiable at this price tag.
Priced at INR 9,100 Micromax Canvas Tab P690 is a decent device. It offers a great build quality at an affordable price tag. If you are looking for a tablet which can be used to watch videos/movies or for reading e-books, P690 can be a good choice. It is not a high performer so don’t expect it to handle heavy multitasking.
