Just a few years ago, the word Selfie didn’t even existed and now it is trending all across the globe. It is so much in a trend that it recently won the award for most popular word of the year. Smartphone companies are cashing on this trend by launching phone dedicated for taking a selfie.
One of the most popular smartphone company in India, Micromax has already done the experiment when it launched Micromax Selfie and after receiving a good response, the company is back again with Selfie 2. As the name suggest, the phone is designed for taking some outstanding selfies but, is it really worth buying? Let’s see in our detailed review of Micromax Canvas Selfie 2.
Looks & Design
The phone is just like any other Micromax smartphone and there is nothing new in the design. Micromax has certainly not done much work on the looks of the phone but, there is one thing which makes a phone look like a premium device.
From the front side, the design is boring and outdated but, just flip the phone and you will be amazed to see the faux leather back. Yes, you read that right. The same type of faux leather which you have seen in high-end Samsung device. This makes the device easy to hold and gives it a premium look.
The rear camera is placed at the top right side of the phone with the LED flash just below the lens. All in all, the design is as simple as it can be with leather back the only exception.
Hardware & Performance
Let’s come directly to the point. The phone features a 5” HD screen with a pixel resolution of 480 x 540 pixels. The display of the phone is not very sharp if we compare it with other smartphones in the same price range. A 720 pixels resolution display would have been much better. The display size is decent, but the pixel density is not up to marks which result in pixel jarring.
The phone is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor and is supported by a 1 GB of RAM. The phone supports 8 GB of internal storage which can be extended up to 32 GB. It is a Dual SIM phone and supports 3G. The phone delivers a decent performance but, starts to lag during heavy multitasking. The phone can support gaming but, only to an extent. Users can enjoy low end or mid range games, but you will notice lag in high-end games.
Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 comes with Android 5.0 out of the box. The phone comes pre-loaded with the “Firstouch” launcher which has its own merits and demerits. Preloaded apps like Swiftkey keyboard comes as an added advantage.
The 2000 mAh battery delivers a talk time of close to 6-8 hours which is decent but, not the best. The fact is simple, Micromax has tried a lot to make the device a powerhouse, but it does not impress us in this department. The phone is decent in terms of hardware and performance but, it could have been much better as there are phones in the market which are way more powerful and rich in feature and costs almost same as Canvas Selfie 2.
With Selfie in the name of the phone, expectations automatically rise that the front camera would be worth expecting. The 5 MP front facing camera do clicks some good pictures but, fails to impress in low light condition. It can click good selfies with nice details but, only if the light is in ample quantity.
Talking about the rear camera, thing are also pretty nice here. The 5MP rear camera with LED flash delivers good camera experience. When it comes to low-end smartphones, people do not expect a much from a camera but Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is an exception.
The mid-range smartphone market is getting filled with smartphones. Almost each and every company is trying to come up with a device in this price range as the demand is high and users don’t hesitate in trying new brands. Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is a decent device but, the competition is tough. If you are looking for a device for clicking good selfies and which offers a decent performance, Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is a good choice and can be considered.
