Micromax has announced the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its new online only brand YU. Company has appointed Mr. Amarinder S Dhaliwal as COO, who earlier worked as Founder and CEO of “Done by None”, a online women’s fashion brand.
Earlier this month, Micromax had collaborated with Cyanogen Inc.( well known for its CyanogenMod based on Android) and announced its new Smartphone brand YU, which will be sold online and introduced from next month onwards. YU Televentures is the subsidiary of Micromax and will be led by Mr. Rahul Sharma, Co-founder of Micromax.
Speaking on Amarinder’s appointment, Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder of Micromax, said, “These are exciting times for us. With YU, our aim is to reach out to a very unique set of audiences; tech-enthusiasts, digital natives and the developer ecosystem. Amarinder brings a unique combination of expertise with his entrepreneurial and leadership roles in internet & ecommerce space. He will be leading marketing initiatives for building the brand with a community of highly engaged users, driving revenue from product & services and setting-up world class internet operations.”
So, what makes him qualified to lead, what could be revolutionary Micromax venture? The new COO, Mr. Dhaliwal, has around 20 years of rich experience in the e-commerce industry. He has already worked with Done by None as a co-founder and CEO, Zigwheels.com as a founder business head and Indiatimes Shopping as a National Head. He holds a B.Tech degree from IIT, Delhi and post graduation in management from IIM, Ahmedabad .
As a COO of YU, Mr. Dhaliwal will be taking care of set up the new brand’s operations, will also lead marketing initiatives and drive revenues from product & services. He will closely work with Mr. Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder of Micromax.
We are excited to see what Micromax does with its new online retail brand. Since smartphone market is becoming more and more cost sensitive, it makes sense to retail products online and save distribution cost.
