Micromax has collaborated with Cyanogen Inc. and announced a new smartphone brand “YU”. YU is owned by YU Televentures, a subsidiary of Micromax Informatics. Devices under the brand name YU will be announced next month onwards in India.
Cyanogen Inc. is a smartphones operating system creator popular for CynogenMod, a forked android ROM which is feature rich and faster. Oppo N1 and OnePlus One already come with their CyanogenMod OS variants, approved by Google. Cyanogen OS offers you great software which helps you to improve performance and adds several customization options on your devices.
The devices with the brand name YU will be sold online starting from next month. Company has not confirmed that through which online retail portal it will be selling these smartphones. Success of companies like Motorola and Xiaomi in Indian market has compelled domestic manufacturers to adopt on line retail models to cut distribution cost and thus reduce the overall price.
At the launch, Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax, said, “We strongly feel that CYANOGEN is the right partner to help us deliver a differentiated experience in the mobile ecosystem, we are together committed to challenge the limits of possibility and create a new world.”
Android is a open source firmware which is introduced to public by Google. CyanogenMod is basically built on Android OS. CyanogenMod was created to increase reliability and customize performance over other Android based ROMs. CyanogenMod has four active major versions for now: CyanogenMod 10 (Android 4.1), 10.1 (Android 4.2), 10.2 (Android 4.3) and 11 (Android 4.4). We can expect a customized CynogenMod variant in upcoming Yu smartphones.
