Lumia 830 Hands-on : Premium Device in Mid Range Segment

Microsoft has launched Lumia 830 in India for Rs 28,799 and it will be available from 8th October 2014. The device features a 5 inch HD display and it runs on Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. The first thing which we noticed about the device was its premium build quality.

Lumia 830 is a mid range device according to the pricing but closer to flagship devices in build quality. It comes with a 5 inch HD display and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection. The display is quite good, bright and have decent viewing angles. Above the display you have a 0.9 megapixel front facing camera along with an earpiece and proximity & ambient light sensors.

Below the display you have usual windows touch buttons – back, home and search. On the right side we have a volume rocker, power/lock key and a dedicated camera shutter key. The device has a metal frame which gives this device a premium look and feel. Micro USB port and 3.5 mm audio jack is present at the top of the device.

Moving to the back of the phone, it comes with a removable back cover which is made out of matte plastic. The back feels quite smooth and durable in nature. We have a 10 megapixel pureview camera with LED flash & OIS along with a loudspeaker at the bottom of the back. Overall, in terms of design & build it is definitely a great phone.

We tried capturing some images using the 10 MP back camera present on the device and guess what? It performs better than some of the high end Android flagship devices available in the market. The phone is powered by a 1.2 Ghz quad core processor along with 1 GB of RAM which is sufficient to provide a smooth and lag free experience on the device. Normal navigation, opening or closing of the apps and pre-loaded apps like here drive, Mix Radio etc do not lag on the device.

The phone comes with a 2,200 mAh battery with Integrated wireless charging and it Supports 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Users will also get 1 TB of free cloud storage on One Drive for 6 months with the device.

We still need to do a in-depth review of the device to test real camera performance, gaming experience and much more but in our first hands on experience we really liked the device and feel that it could become one of the best mid range smartphones in the market.
