An attempt to break its under rated image in the world of smartphones, LG has come up with a phone that claims to give competition to Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. Display & Design
This phone has a flat angular design that distinguishes it against the army of round edged phones. Against the curvy subtle look of HTC One X and Samsung galaxy S3, this one has a flat angular chassis with solid edges that gives it a sturdy and classy look. Talking about the display, this phone has a spectacular 4.7 inch true HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with corning glass that gives you a sharp view and prevents the screen from scratches.
The screen size remains the same as the One X and the resolution is 720×1280 pixels. The display has a 312 ppi pixel density which is quite good. The phone has a dimension of 132.4 x 68.1 x 8.9 mm and weighs only 133 grams. Above the display we have a 1.3 megapixel camera and a proximity sensor.
Below the display, there are 3 usual android touch buttons, for back, home and menu. LG has given the 3rd touch button as menu button whereas it’s competitors like HTC One X has recent apps as the 3rd touch button.
On the back side we have a 8 megapixel camera, a single LED flash, loudspeaker and LG branding. The camera is present on the top left corner of the phone and the speaker is on the bottom left corner.
LG Optimus 4X HD comes with a removable back cover. Underneath the back cover we have a battery, microSD slot and regular SIM card slot. The NFC antenna is present on the reverse side of the back cover.
At the bottom left there are 2 slits present for the speaker.
At the top of the phone you have a 3.5mm audio jack, power/sleep key and a secondary mic for noise cancellation.
At the bottom you have a mic and a MHL/microUSB port for charging the device as well as connecting it with the PC for data transfer.
On the left side you have a Volume rocker which is bit hard to find.
With a 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 quad core processor and NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, the phone delivers a great performance. The speed of operation is impressive even when you multi-task. The phone is emerging as a strong contender in the race to become the best smartphone with features similar to the android phone leaders galaxy S3 and One X. The phone also has a ULP GeForce GPU for enhanced graphics.
The phone comes with a 1GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage out of which 12GB is available for usage. The phone also supports a microSD card of upto 32GB of storage so that you never face any storage related problems. Let’s talk about the connectivity features of the phone. Optimus UI 3.0 has basically changed the stock android icons and added some of their widgets.
LG has also modified the Lock screen and now you just need to drag your finger anywhere on the screen in order to unlock the phone.
LG has also modified the default keyboard. We really liked the tweaked keyboard present in the LG Optimux 4X HD. Keyboard is nice, simple and you can easily type on it.
In landscape mode you would enjoy even more while typing text on Optimux 4X HD.

One of the interesting app present in the phone is LG’s Media App which provides a common access to all your videos, photos and music.
Another interesting app present in the Optimus 4X HD is the LG TAG+ which allows you to easily save or erase the settings on the NFC tag.
Another reason to buy this phone is its camera. The phone has an 8 megapixel camera which can click pictures at a resolution of 3264×2448 pixels. Company has provided a single LED flash with the camera.
The camera is very powerful and also has several features such as geo tagging, auto focus, smile detection and fixed focus. Camera is capable of recording videos at 1080p@30fps. The camera interface is simple and easy to use.
Here are few sample images taken with Optimus 4X HD camera :
The last image was taken in a completely dark room. So the camera is able to capture good images in even low light conditions. A front camera of 1.3 megapixels is also present in the phone for video calling.
One feature that puts this phone on the top of the smartphone list is its powerful battery. The phone is provided with a 2150 mAh Li-ion battery against the 1800 mAh of HTC One X and 2100 of Samsung galaxy S3 which was the highest among smartphones. So, LG Optimus has become an ace of spade in terms of battery life leaving behind all other smartphones.
With such a powerful battery the phone can remain on stand by mode for upto 730 hours in 2G mode or 686 hours in 3G. The battery supports around 11 hours of talk time on 3G.
LG Optimus 4X HD is one of the best high end smartphone available in the market.
