Lenovo announced the U41 laptop at CES 2015 early this year at CES 2015. In June 2015, the company launched U41 laptops in India with an aim to redefine the mid-range segment. Usually, the affordable and mid-range laptops are bulky and lack style quotient. The Lenovo U41 is a stylish, lightweight and powerful laptop. But is it worth buying? Let’s find out.
Build & Design
Lenovo U41 is available in two colors – Silver & Red. The laptop has a metallic look and feel, but it actually comes with a plastic body. It is slim and light in weight. It measures 17 mm in thickness and weighs around 1.8 kg. The laptop is highly portable and can be easily carried around.
You will find a two USB 3.0 ports, RJ45 Ethernet port and HDMI port on the right side of the notebook. A USB 2.0 port, SD card reader and 3.5mm headphone jack is present on the left.
The laptop comes with a chiclet keyboard with large and well-spaced keys. You also have a large trackpad with bottom left and right corner acting as left & right click respectively. We didn’t face any issues while typing on the keyboard or while using the trackpad.
U41 comes with 4 small rubber feets at the bottom for a better grip when kept of different kinds of surface. You also have two Cooling vents and two loudspeaker outlet at the bottom.
We don’t have any complaints about its build and it is one of the best laptop in this price segment in design & build quality.
U41 is available in multiple configurations, the one we have comes with a Intel Core i3 processor clocked at 2.0 Ghz along with 4GB of RAM. It has 1TB hard disk and runs on Windows 8.1 OS. The device is powerful enough to handle most of your daily tasks and software.
The laptop is powerful enough ti easily handle multitasking, web browsing, casual gaming and softwares like Microsoft Office or Camtasia. Since the i3 model does not have a dedicated graphic card it is not good for heavy gaming or graphic intensive tasks like video editing.
If you want a powerful GPU you can checkout the i5 model which comes with a dedicated GPU. The device comes with a 3 cell battery which can last for around 4 hours on casual usage. The laptop comes with Dolby Audio support and speakrs are loud enough to enjoy videos, games or movies. Overall, the performance of the laptop is good enough for the price.
Lenovo U41 comes with a 14 inch display with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels. The display is bright but the colors are bit washed out due to which the display looks slightly dull when compared to other full HD laptops available in the same price segment.
The laptop runs on 64 Bit Windows 8.1 which is the latest version of the OS commercially available for the users. Users can easily upgrade to Windows 10 for free which will be available from 29 July. It comes preloaded with some useful software like Lenovo photo master, Lenovo Gesture control and Dolby Audio system.
Lenovo U41 (i3 Model) is priced at Rs 39,000 and it is available in two different colors – silver & red. It is better than most of the other laptops in this price segment due to its slim and light design. It is highly portable and offers good computing power for most of the users. The only issue with the laptop is its mediocre display. Overall, at this price point Lenovo U41 is definitely a good choice for the users who want to buy a sleek and stylish laptop.
