Lava Xtron+ (Plus) Review – Value for Money Tablet

Lava Xtron+ is the successor of E-tab Xtron tablet launched by Lava earlier this year. It is an entry level tablet and costs less than Rs 7,000. So is it worth your money? Read on to find out.

Display & Design

Xtron+ has a nearly the same design as that of E-tab Xtron. The back of the device is made of aluminium which gives it a better finish. The tablet is just 11.9 mm thick and weighs around 360 grams. So it wont be a tough task to carry the tablet around. It features a 7 inch touch screen display at the front with a large bezel around it. The tablet also has a VGA front facing camera for video calling. The display is quite good the only problem we faced with the display was its over reflective nature.

As we mentioned above the Lava Xtron+ (Plus) has a aluminium finish at the back. It  gives a premium look to the tablet. At back you have a 2 megapixel camera and Xtron+ branding at the center.

At the top of the tablet you have a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack at the right side.

On the top, at the left corner you have a speaker grill. The tab does not have any ports or buttons on the bottom edge.

On the right side of the tablet you have a centrally located microphone, volume rocker, power/lock key and a button to return to the home screen.

The micro USB, micro HDMI and a 2.5mm charging port are present on the left side of the device.

Overall Lava Xtron+ Tab is one of the few tablets in this price segment which offers good build quality.

Hardware & Performance

The tablet is powered by a 1.5Ghz dual core Cortex A9 processor along with 1GB of RAM and mali 400 GPU. The specs are quite decent and users would be able to enjoy popular games like temple run 2, angry birds, dead trigger on the device.

The tab is powerful enough to handle most of your apps and it is capable of doing multitasking with ease. Talking about the connectivity features, Xtron+ supports WiFi, micro USB and micro HDMI. Unfortunately the tablet lacks bluetooth which is usually present on every android device.

Lava Xtron+ runs on Android 4.2 Jelly bean OS. It comes pre-loaded with some of the most famous content apps such as Saavn, BligFlix, Edukart etc. The onscreen controls are present at the center of the screen.

There are two slide down trays at the top, left one displays date, time and notifications and the right side one can be used for toggling various features such as Wi-Fi, screen rotation, etc. Overall the interface is quite smooth and easy to use.

Camera & Battery Life

Xtron+ comes with  2 megapixel back camera and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calling. The quality of back camera is average. Usually the tablets are not meant to be used as a camera but sometimes they are useful in capturing few shots. The quality of captured images was decent and can be used in emergency when you don’t have any other device with a camera.

The tablet comes with a 3700mAh battery which is average in terms of performance. With moderate usage the battery lasted for around 4.5 hours. During that time we played few videos on the device, browsed internet, played games and kept our social media accounts on syncing mode.

Lava Xtron+ is one of the most affordable tablets available in the market. It is a value for money tablet. Good build quality and the aluminium finish at the back makes it stand out of the crowd. Company has provided decent hardware, performance won’t be an issue while doing majority of tasks on the tablet. If the screen was bit less reflective and the bluetooth was present on the tablet, then this might have been an amazing tablet in this price segment.
