Chinese smartphone manufacturer iVoomi recently launched its second series of smartphones in India. The iVoomi Me5 is similar to the debutant Me1+ in terms of hardware and design, but it comes at an even more aggressive price which makes it an option worth considering for anyone looking for a low-cost 4G VoLTE phone. We spent some time with the phone and let’s talk about the practical usage experience of iVoomi Me5 in our review.

Design and Build
As you’d expect in this budget, the iVoomi Me5 is made entirely of plastic. It isn’t exactly a looker but has all the basics covered. There is 2.5D glass on the front (rare in this segment), the battery is removable, the handset feels solid and sturdy and it’s quite comfortable to carry around and to use with one hand. At the same time, something more subtle in terms of branding would have worked better.
The phone has silver coated capacitive navigation keys below the display, the hardware buttons have decent tactile feedback, the speaker grill is present on the rear, the phone has two nano SIM and dedicated MicroSD card underneath the removable back cover, and both the 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port are placed on the top edge.
iVoomi Me5 has a 5-inch display with 720p HD resolution. As mentioned above, there is 2.5D glass layered on the display. The colors and contrasts are indeed quite good compared to what we usually see in entry grade phones. On the downside, the display is slightly reflective and has broad black bezels bordering it.
Camera and Image
Once again, it’s hard to expect much in terms of camera performance at this price point. The phone has an 8MP rear camera with AF that can shoot good images in good lighting with natural colors and good details. The 5MP selfie camera can also shoot workable shots in this budget.
The performance understandably deteriorates in low light. All said and done, the camera performance shouldn’t be a deal breaker.
Performance and software
The iVoomi Me5 is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Spreadtrum chipset paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. You can add up to 128GB of secondary microSD storage as well.
The chipset is meant for basic users and drives Android Nougat based software on the Me5. We didn’t notice any stutters with casual usage, but if you push it to its limits the lag will begin to creep in.
The software on the phone is nearly stock with some light customizations. An app drawer is present as well. Other notable software features include Multiwindows, quick reply, and extensive gesture support. iVoomi has also added a few preloaded apps like call recorder, call firewall, etc.
The audio output from the rear speakers is reasonably loud. The phone supports 4G VoLTE and works well with Reliance Jio SIM cards, we didn’t face any issue with call quality in our time with the handset.
Battery, Price, and Verdict
The handset has a 3000mAh battery inside and managed to consistently last for one whole day with basic to moderate usage.
Priced at 4,499 INR, the iVoomi Me5 has a lot working in its favor. The phone has light and up to date software, good display, a 3000mAh battery and decent set of cameras for the price. If you are strictly looking for a phone priced under 5000 INR, iVoomi Me5 is something we can recommend for light and basic users.
