Design & Build Quality
The first thing that we noticed about the device was its weight and form factor. It is a lightweight device, weighs around 121 grams and measures just 6.7 mm in thickness. The phone is available in Black and White color variants.
The front of the smartphone is dominated by a 5 inch HD Super AMOLED display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display has good viewing angles and brightness levels. It is a sharp and vibrant display. The touch response of the display is quite good.
Above the display, you have a 5-megapixel front facing camera along with an earpiece and proximity sensor.
Moving to the back, Aqua Ace comes with a 13-megapixel camera along with LED flash. The phone has glass back protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The device comes with a plastic rim that looks and feel like a metal. On the right side, you have power/lock key, volume rocker, and a microSD card slot. The dual SIM card slot is present on the left side.
At the bottom of the phone, you have a primary mic for voice calling and a loudspeaker. The micro-USB port and a 3.5mm Audio jack is present at the top.
Overall, the device has good design and build quality. Due to its light weight and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection both in front as well as back, it feels like a premium device.
Hardware & Performance
Intex Aqua Ace is powered by a 1.3 Ghz Quad Core Mediatek MT6735 processor along with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The phone supports microSD card of up to 128GB storage.
To measure the performance of the smartphone, we ran few benchmark tests on the device – Antutu, Geekbench 3, Quadrant Standard and Nenamark 2. The device achieved pretty well scores in all the benchmarks. It scored 28,441 in the Antutu Benchmark and for other results watch the video below:
The phone is powerful enough to handle moderate level of gaming. You will be able to run low & mid-end games on the device without any issues. For high-end games like Asphalt 8, it can run them on the high settings but you will face few frame drops and minor lag.
Intex Aqua Ace can handle multi-tasking with ease, and we didn’t face any issues while running multiple apps at the same time. For normal day to day usage and apps, we didn’t face any performance related issues. It is a dual SIM Smartphone and supports 4G on both the SIM slots. The audio from the loudspeaker is loud and clear.
The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, and you get the stock Android experience. You won’t find any bloatware or useless pre-installed apps on the smartphone. There isn’t much to talk about the software, but one thing that is worth mentioning is the Smart motion feature.
It allows the users to activate various features like “Action Unlock” which lets you unlock the phone by waving your palm across the top of the phone, “Turn to Snooze” which snoozes the alarm if you turn the phone, “Smart Answer” which allows you to answer an incoming call bu simply putting the phone close to your ear and “Answer by Swing”.
Aqua Ace comes with a 13 megapixel back camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a basic camera app that offers modes like a live photo, Motion Tracking, Panorama and HDR.
The back camera captures good quality images in daylight conditions but in low light the images contain noise and graininess. Despite having a 5-megapixel camera, the quality of images from the front facing camera is not good.
The phone comes with a 2,300 mAh non-removable battery. The battery easily lasts for an entire day with moderate or heavy usage. We were not expecting such a good battery life from a 2,300 mAh battery, but we were really surprised.
Intex Aqua Ace is available in India for Rs 12,999. At this price tag, it offers a good design, a great build quality and an impressive battery life. The phone is slim, lightweight and feels sturdy in hand.
It is not the most powerful device in this price segment but offers decent performance and good multitasking experience. The back camera can be used for casual photography, but the front camera is not up to the mark.
