InFocus is an American brand which entered the Indian smartphone market with the InFocus M2. They have been releasing different phones in different price range since then and they even joined hands with Foxconn to produce phones in India itself. Recently they launched the InFocus M680 in India which is currently their flagship under the Rs. 11,000 segment. Let us take a look at the phone and see what it has to offer in this quick review.
Design & Build Quality
The InFocus M680 is a welcomed refresh from their lineup of smartphones, as it comes with a really nice design. The phone has an unibody design. It has a metal frame and also enough metal on it to give it a premium feel and look. The front of the device features a 5.5 inch Full HD screen with a pixel density of 401 PPI. Above the screen, you will see the earpiece, the front-facing camera and also the sensors which are visible clearly in the white version of the device. Below the screen you will find the navigation buttons which will be used for navigation purposes on the device.
The back of the phone has metallic parts above and below the back cover which gives the phone a premium feel and look. You will also find the 13MP camera along with flash on the backside. The InFocus branding is clearly visible and rest of the back is clean.
On the right-hand side of the device, you will see a power, lock and unlock button along with a SIM tray. On the left-hand side, you will find the volume rockers. The top of the device has a 3.5mm audio jack and the microphone, speaker and microUSB ports are found on the bottom of the phone.
The phone feels quite solid in hand and the metallic parts of the phone give it a premium feel that people will love.
The phone comes with a beautiful 5.5 inch full HD – 1920×1080 pixels display. If you love big screen phones then this phone will definitely become a phone that you like in no time. Not only that, but in this price range, full HD screen phones are still a big thing and hence InFocus M680 is a good choice if you want a phone that you will use to watch videos or to play games.
The phone comes with two 13MP camera both on the rear as well as the front side. Yes, even the front facing camera has a 13MP sensor which is a great thing for people who want to shoot selfies with the phone. The camera app on the device is good and simple to use. There are extra features like taking a live photo, beauty mode for selfies etc.
The only thing that irks me about the camera is the time it takes to focus on a subject. This is something that can be fixed with a software update, though. Overall, the camera performance of the Infocus M680 is good.
The InFocus M680 comes with a MediaTek MT6753 which is an octa-core chipset clocked at 1.5 Ghz. The CPU is coupled with a Mali-T720 GPU for taking care of graphics and games. The phone has 2GB of RAM which some people will find a bit less when other phones provide 3GB RAM in the same range.
The phone has an internal storage of 16GB and you can expand the storage up to 64GB with a microSD card. We didn’t face any kind of lag during normal use or while opening/closing the apps. The device can handle gaming but we did face lag in few high end games like modern combat 5.
The phone comes with a battery of mere 2600mAh which is definitely a downside of the device. The phone has a full HD display which means the screen will take up a lot of the battery juice hence the battery life is nothing great. The phone has a great standby time but if you are anywhere between the moderate to heavy user, you will not find the battery enough to give you a full day worth of juice.
The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop at its core but on the outer side, you will see that InFocus has applied their own skin on the software running on the device. The interface has no special feature but it is stable and does not have lot of bugs.
Extra apps like Mobile Assistant, Power Detective, Backup Tool and App Traffic Control are installed out of the box but these apps also take up a lot of space from the 16GB storage that the phone has to offer. You have customization options like choosing themes, icons etc. The touch sensitive navigation buttons will help you in navigating the device.
The phone is a good introduction in the market and can be a good choice for the users who are looking forward to buy a smartphone with big display. Low battery life, mediocre gaming performance and low storage are some downsides of thsi device but on the plus side, the camera is quite good and it is a good phone for people who love taking selfies. The build quality of the phone is good and the display is good too and will work well for people who consume multimedia content.
