Indian Opera Mini users save Rs. 2.1 billion in six months on data usage


Opera Web browsers as well known as one of the best third party web browsers which is developed by not any smartphone operating system vendor but a dedicated software company, Opera Software ASA. This Norwegian company has this web browser for more than a decade and knows well what they do. They target every market no matter a smartphone or a feature phone. Opera has gone through years of development and has built an algorithm for its web browsers to make them highly data efficient. This is the famous USP of Opera web browsers which we are aware of.

Focusing on the same, Opera recently announced that it’s advanced compression technology saved Indian users 75% data costs which brings the amount to a whooping 2.1 billion in the first six months of 2014. This amount equivalents to Rs. 350 million per month and that is huge.

According to the report, Java based phones saved 81% data usage each month, while the smartphones saved 69%. Android phones clocked an average of 68.5% savings per month, while iOS users saved about 62%.

These statistics are based on Opera Mini reports which use the advanced compression technology to lower down bandwidth usage by up to 90%. This not only results in cost reduction but also faster browsing and seamless usage on even roaming where the network often face hiccups.
