Samsung has introduced the all new Gear S3 collection at IFA 2016 in Berlin which includes Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier. These dust and water resistant watches will be rolling out from October 2016 onwards and will be retailing for around 250 to 300 US Dollars.
Samsung Gear S3 frontier features a rugged, sporty look, while Gear S3 classic flaunts an elegant design. Both of these smartwatches feature 1.3 inch Circular Super AMOLED Always On display with the resolution of 360×360 pixels which amounts to 278ppi per pixel density. The display is bigger than last year’s Gear S2 and is protected by Gorilla Glass SR+, which has been specially designed for protecting Wearables against scratches.
The innovative and intuitive Rotating Bezel has been passed on to the new Gear S3 as well. You can interact with the software by rotating the dial, which perhaps qualifies as the best implementation of smartwatches so far.
Both these Tizen OS based smartwatches are equipped with 1GHz Dual Core processor, along with 768MB RAM and 4GB of inbuilt memory. These watches house a 380mAh battery and the company touts that you can extract up to 4 days of battery backup. Wireless charging is also supported.
The Gear S3 Frontier model comes with cellular radio chip which let you to directly connect to 4G networks, and to make calls or answer them without connecting the watch to your smartphone. It also comes with built-in speaker and GPS technology. The Gear S3 can independently stream music as well.
The Gear S3 watches include a lot more features compared to the last years Gear S2, but that also makes them a tad thicker and heavier. Most people won’t mind the added heft, though.
