Hug Smartwatch Based on Microsoft Azure Launched In India

Indian technology start-up Hug Innovations has launched a Microsoft Azure based smartwatch, called the Hug smartwatch. The watch has been designed in a way to help users control their gadgets with hand gestures and motions. The watch is 11.6 mm thick, weighs just 46 grams and is compatible with Andriod, iOS and Windows Phone devices.

Hug smartwatch the first Gesture Control Smartwatch in the world that integrates with Oculus Rift VR. For improved motion sensing, Hug Watch uses proprietary algorithms that fuse data from High Resolution 9 axis IMU (3Axis Accelerometer-3AxisGyroscope –3Axis Magnetometer) sensors.


Feature set includes making calls, tracking physical activity & nutrition, music playback and find devices. Then there is an SOS button which you can trigger with gestures in emergency situations.

The Hug smartwatch features a 1.6-inch, 240×240 pixels, Transflective LCD display protected by Asahi Glass.  On the software front, it is running Nucleus RTOS operating system, based on the MediaTek MT2502C SoC which is optimized for power and performance.

The Hug smartwatch relies on Microsoft Azure, a cloud computing platform which is cost efficient and can be customized for individual start-up needs. Consumer data will be stored on Microsoft servers, which should more confidence regarding its handling and security among consumers.
