Huawei Honor Holly Review – Great Budget Smartphone

Honor Holly is a budget smartphone launched by Huawei last month in India. The budget smartphone market in India is already crowded with devices from nearly every mobile company. The phone has great specifications but is it better than devices like Redmi 1S, Google Android One and Moto E which are currently very popular? And is it worth Buying? Read on to find out.

Design & Build Quality

Huawei Honor Holly has a plastic body and comes with a glossy finish both in front as well as back. It has a slightly curved back which makes it easier to hold and use. It weighs around 156 grams which is bit on the higher side but still it is lighter than devices like Redmi 1S. The front of the device is dominated by a 5 inch HD IPS display.

Overall, Honor Holly has good design and build quality. It might not be the best device in terms of build quality in this segment but it is at par with most of the budget smartphones.

Display

Huawei Honor Holly comes with a 5inch HD IPS LCD display which has a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The display is bigger than most of the devices in this segment. It is a fingerprint magnet and you need to clean it regularly. Talking about the Brightness levels, color reproduction and contrast, all are pretty decent.

Hardware & Performance

The phone is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core mediatek processor along with 1GB of RAM and Mali 400 MP2 GPU. Most of the other devices in this segment offer the same specifications but Holly offers you 16 GB internal storage which is better than most of the devices.

In normal usage we did not face any kind of lag or slowness. It was able to handle most of apps which are used daily like Facebook, twitter etc easily. We tried playing games like Dead Trigger 2 on the device and it was able to run it without any issues. You can checkout the Huawei Honor Holly Benchmarks and Gaming Test video below:

The phone Supports Dual SIM, 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and microSD card of upto 32 GB storage. The loudspeaker on the device is pretty loud and we didn’t face any audio issues while watching videos or playing games. Overall, Honor Holly is a good performer and it won’t let you down when it comes to playing games, watching videos or while multitasking.

Software

The device runs on Android Kitkat OS along with Emotion UI on top. Just like most of the launchers these days, Emotion UI does not have any app drawer and all the app icons are present on the home screens. The level of customization is not deep and features like notification center is similar to stock Android. The UI is smooth and users get a separate SIM management option to manage SIM cards.

Camera

Honor Holly comes with a 8 megapixel autofocus back camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling and capturing selfies. The back camera offers modes like Panorama, HDR and beauty face. It supports 1080p video recording. Here are some sample images taken using the back camera of the device (click on images to view larger image):

Overall, the quality of captured images is decent. It works great in day light conditions but low light photography is not upto the mark.

Battery Life

Honor Holly comes with a 2,000 mAh removable battery. Using the 1A output charger provided with the device, it takes around 2 hours to completely charge the device. With moderate usage it can last for an entire day but with heavy usage you need to charge it before the day ends.

Conclusion

Huawei honor holly is priced at Rs 6,999 on flipkart and it is currently sold out. It is a great budget smartphone and can be a good choice for the users looking for a 5 inch display in this price segment. The phone offers 16 GB internal storage which is better than most of its competitors. We will recommend this device to the users who are looking for a good budget smartphone with bigger display, more internal storage and great performance.

  • Bigger Display
  • 16GB internal storage
  • Performance
  • Value for money
