The Honor 7 is also a great smartphone that is loaded with better specifications when compared to other options in the same price range. Build Quality – Look & Feel
The build quality of the phone is solid and it looks and feels really great in hands. The back of the phone is entirely made up of aluminium that has a matte finish and it looks great on the phone. The metal is good enough to provide a premium feel to any user who holds the phone.
The build of Honor 7 is solid and the placements of buttons, sensor etc. feel apt. On the front of the phone, you will find a 5.2-inch full HD IPS display which is a great display size and does not make the phone look too big. The top of the screen houses the earpiece of the phone along with the front facing camera and sensors. The lower side of the screen is clean and does not have anything.
The back side is fully built of metal and you will notice the primary camera with flash and fingerprint sensor. There is a cool Honor branding on the back which looks good.
The right side of the device has a volume rocker and a smart button that you can set to do 3 different tasks like taking a screenshot on a single press, launching an app on double press and launching another app on long press.
On the left side, you will find the power lock & unlock button along with the SIM tray that also has a tray for a microSD card. The top of the phone has a 3.5mm audio jack and an IR blaster that allows people to use the remote functions on the device. The lower side of the phone has a microUSB port along with the speaker grills.
The display is a 5.2 inch IPS LCD touch panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The display does not make the phone large which means people will be able to use it with one hand. The display is extremely good looking and produces colors accurately. It is good for watching videos/mobies, playing games or reading text.
The phone is loaded with a primary camera of 20 MP along with a dual tone LED flash which is good for taking shots in low light conditions. The front facing camera has an 8 MP sensor and a single tone LED flash which is something that not many phones feature. It is a great camera for taking selfies too.
The camera app is a custom camera app developed by Huawei and it has different modes and filters that one can take advantage of. Typical features like HDR, Panorama etc. are readily available as well.
The phone has a battery of 3100mAh which is good for a phone in this price & form factor. With heavy usage the battery lasts for around 1 day which is an impressive thing. For light or moderate usage the battery can last for upto 2 days.
Hardware & Performance
The phone has a 3.7 Ghz Hisilicon Kirin 935 Octa Core Processor – 4 cores at 2.2 GHz and 4 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. This processor is not used by many phones out there but that doesn’t mean it is any bad. The processor works really well and does not overheat. It can handle any game you try on it easily as well.
You get 3GB RAM on this device and an internal storage of 16GB. You can expand the storage to 128 GB with a microSD card but what is it with every company still putting in 16GB storage in their phones? Overall, Honor 7 is a powerful device capable of handling multi-tasking and gaming with ease.
The phone runs on Android 5.0.2 with Emotion UI 3.1 on top of it which provides some extra features like customizability, being able to use the smart key etc. But The phone still runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop under the hood and will get the Android 5.1 update when it is available. Huawei has also started to roll out the Marshmallow 6.0 update for the smartphone. The software on the device is stable and does not have bugs which we see in other custom UI available in the market.
Honor 7 is available in India for Rs 22,999 which makes it a good choice for the users. This phone definitely has a great form factor, a nice build and design, a good camera, powerful specs and impressive battery. For many people the 16GB internal memory might be a deal killer. Overall, it is a great value for money device and one of the best options you can find in 20K-30K INR price segment.
