Gionee S Plus Review

After the launch of Gionee Marathon M5 in Indian, Gionee isn’t stalling on introducing new smartphones in every category and this is why they launched the Gionee S Plus in India. As per Gionee, this phone will be launched at a price of Rs. 16,999 and it will be an exclusive to India and will only be sold in India.

Gionee has put in a lot of efforts to make this phone reach a mass of new audience and they are trying out some new things like providing a USB Type-C port and three different colors that the phone can be purchased in. Let us take a deeper look into the phone and see how it stands up when we take a look at the features and other aspects of the device.

Design & Build

The phone has a simple but elegant design that anyone would love at first glance. Gionee decided to go for the minimal form factor for the device and the results are quite impressive to be honest. The phone is built out of polycarbonate which feels good but addition of some metal on the phone would have made it feel more premium.

The front of the device has a 5.5 inches HD AMOLED display. The colors and details on the display are bright and it looks good too. Apart from that, you will find the earpiece, the front facing camera along with sensors above the display. Below the display, there are three touch-sensitive buttons that can be used for navigation.

The back of the device has a plastic cover with diamond patterns that increases the overall beauty of the device. You can also see the primary camera and flash on the back and below that you will find the Gionee branding. The speaker grill is on the lower side of the device. The bottom of the device houses the USB Type-C port which also supports fast charging along with the microphone hole. The top houses the 3.5mm audio jack and that’s it.

The display on this phone is a 5.5 inches AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The color reproduction of the display is good and the AMOLED display makes sure that the display is visible even in sunlight. But the phone is priced at Rs. 16,999 which means people would expect at least a 1080p display on the phone.

Battery Life & Fast Charge

The phone comes in with a battery of 3150mAh which is more than enough for the 720p display that this phone sports. It can easily go through a day and even if you run out of battery, you can utilize the fast charging feature to make sure you have adequate battery levels within minutes.

Hardware & Performance

GIonee S plus is a Dual SIM phone and it supports 4G. This phone sports a MediaTek MT6753 1.3 Ghz octa-core processor which is coupled with 3 GB of RAM. The processor is powerful enough to manage the day to day operations. We didn’t face lag while navigating through the interface or while opening/closing the applications.

The gaming performance of the smartphone is also good, it can handle almost all the games without any issues. The internal storage is just 16GB which again might create some problems for people who want to store games and apps on their internal storage. But you can expand it up to 128GB which will help.Overall, the phone is good enough for most of the users when it co

The phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Amigo 3.1 UI on top to provide some extra software features.  The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is in order and will be provided once it is fully developed for the device. The Amigo 3.1 interface itself is a different skin and you will notice the lack of an apps drawer. You can install other launchers like the Google Launcher or Nova Launcher if you are used to those launchers.

The phone comes with a 13 megapixel back camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The camera interface offers a lot of modes like professional mode, ultra pixel, smart scene etc. The back camera works really well and captures good quality images with great details. The front camera also captures good quality selfies.

The phone is available in India for Rs 16,999, at this price tag, it offers elegant design, good performance, impressive battery life and a great camera. The display of the device is also good but it could have been better if there was a full HD display. Overall, Gionee S Plus is a good smartphone for the users looking for a stylish yet powerful smartphone.
