A small Noida based company, Ringing Bells has today launched its new smartphone ‘Freedom 251’ which becomes the world’s cheapest smartphone, priced at only Rs. 251 or $3.6 US. Freedom 251 will be available for pre-order starting from 6 am on 18th February to 8 pm to 21st February through freedom251.com and roll out will start by 30th June 2016.
Talking of the specifications, Freedom 251 features a 4 inch WVGA display and is powered by 1.3 GHz quad core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. This dual SIM smartphone has an inbuilt 8GB of storage and an expandable memory by up to 32GB of storage with microSD card.
On the camera section, Freedom 251 has a 3.2 MP camera on its rear with LED flash and a VGA frontal sensor for selfies lovers. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out of the box and is backed by 1450mAh battery. Connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Micro USB port.
We have to admit that the hardware is much better than what we would expect for the dirt cheap price. Hardware could have been a lot worse. This also makes us suspicious that this is just a marketing stunt and the company might not have much stock to distribute after all.
Freedom 251 will be officially launched at an event in New Delhi by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, MP and Union Defence Minister Sri Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Guest. The smartphone comes with pre-installed apps including Women Safety, Swachh Bharat, Framers, Fishermen and more.
