Dolby Labs which were working on a new audio technology have finally made their latest innovation available for the public. Dolby Atmos which now powers the audio in Delite Cinemas starting May 1, 2014 is the first cinema in the city to come equipped with this audio technology.
Delite Cinemas situated in Daryaganj, Delhi now runs the Dolby Atmos audio processing engine provides an exclusive experience which creates an own virtual reality zone. Dolby Atmos is the latest audio technology from Dolby technologies which can make sound help in storytelling by giving filmmakers the creative freedom to place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre to create a lifelike, virtual reality of sound. Unlike the channel-based sound system which requires the film makers to get prior knowledge of number and placement of speakers, Dolby Atmos is absolutely independent from any prior knowledge.
Life of Pi, Brave, and Star Trek: Into Darkness have already been made with Atmos ready and many more titles are coming in future. The first cinema hall to come equipped with this technology was the Sathyam multiplex in Chennai. Delite Cinemas is the first screen in Delhi to feature Dolby Atmos, though India has got several others mostly in South India including PVR Juhu in Mumbai.
