A Hindu mythological comic book, Priya Shakti has been launched in India in collaboration with augmented reality browser Blippar India. This comic book aims to increase awareness about sexual violence against women and launched by Dan Goldman & Ram Devineni at the Mumbai Film and Comics Convention on 19 to 21 December, 2014.
This comic book comes with a new female super hero, Priya who’s a young girl and gang rape survivor and inspired by Goddess Parvati who fights against crime. “Priya Shakti” is designed for teenagers and Mr. Devineni believes that comic books can easily inspire the teenagers and move them to action. The students scripted their stories, created the comics before turning them into animated GIFs using Mozilla’s Popcorn Maker and augmented reality software
Dan Goldman is a novel and comic writer credited with Artwork for Priya Shakti comic book. Ram Devineni is a filmmaker, publisher and founder of Rattapallax films, press who has written and directed this augmented reality comic book.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Arnav Ghosh, Regional Director, Blippar said,
We are delighted to collaborate with Priya Shakti to raise awareness for such a cause and to introduce India’s first interactive comic which brings forth burning issue of Sexual Violence in India. Blippar allows the book to be interactive and helps it connect with the readers by marrying the real and virtual world.
This is an augmented reality which uses an app Blippar to make animation, videos and other interactive elements pop out of the pages. People can download the free APP at blippar.com and check the comic book ‘Priya Shakti’.
People anywhere in the world can download a free digital copy of the comic from project’s website and at ComiXology and BitTorrent. Printed copies in Hindi and English will be available at the Comic Con Mumbai later in December.
