Research In Motion (RIM) has announced that their upcoming mobile platform, BlackBerry 10 has received FIPS 140-2 certification. This certification would allow the government agencies to deploy BlackBerry 10 smartphones and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 which is RIM’s new mobile enterprise management solution from the day of launch. This is the first time BlackBerry products have been FIPS certified ahead of launch.
FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140 certification is issued by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) which helps security conscious organizations to deal with important data on BlackBerry 10 smartphones in a secured and encrypted data.
All the BlackBerry products are protected by AES 256 bit encryption which is highly secure and worldwide accepted data protection standard. Besides FIPS certification BlackBerry Enterprise Solution is the first mobile platform to achieve Common Criteria Certification and first to receive approval through the CESG Assisted Product Scheme (CAPS).
BlackBerry phones has always been popular for their security features. BlackBerry 7 smartphones meet Common Criteria security assurance level EAL 4+. BlackBerry 10 devices are expected to be released in the Q1 2013.
