Late last year Google presented its first Tango smartphone, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which was a mid-range handset that could map your surroundings and demonstrated its AR capabilities with the help of 30 tailor made apps. However, it wasn’t very good at what it did and now, Google has teamed with Asus to deliver its first high-end Tango phone – the Zenfone AR.
The Asus Zenfone AR employs the best in business Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor to do all the AR biding. And since Snapdragon 821 is also compatible with Google Daydream standard, it also becomes the first phone to support Google’s AR and VR. The handset doesn’t combine its VR and AR ability in any app yet, though.
The chipset is aided by a whopping 8GB RAM (there is also a 6GB RAM variant). You also get to choose between 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB (UFS 2.0) internal storage. On the software front, it is running Android 7.0 Nougat.
For photography, the Zenfone AR includes a 23MP rear camera with dual-tone LED Flash, 4-axis OIS, laser AF and f/2.0 aperture lens. On the front, there is an 8MP camera also with f/2.0 lens.
Other features include Built-in Mono 5 magnet speaker, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac5 GHz 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB Type-C and 3300mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support.
Asus hasn’t revealed the price of Zenfone AR yet, but more details will surface closer to its availability which is slated for Q2 2017.
